911 GT2 RS MR is the fastest road-legal sports car on the ‘Ring’

Porsche has set another new record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in cooperation with Manthey-Racing. On Thursday, 25 October 2018, the Porsche GT2 RS MR completed a lap of the 20.6-kilometre long circuit in 6:40.3 minutes.

Getting close to full GT3 racer times. Glickenhaus SGC03 did a 6:15 to to the “Bilstein” overpass st Antoniusbuche.
 
I saw an article mention something about Porsche taking the time back, but looking at the details, the production record still belongs to Lamborghini. This car has a new spoiler, racing canards, new suspension, lighter wheels, & upgraded brakes.

It's an amazing time, but this kind of "record" opens the door for any manufacturer to partner up with their best racing team and see what their cars can achieve in the aftermarket sector.

That's not all they did....
The tweaks include a new aero package with a larger wing and dive planes, new suspension hardware, magnesium wheels, and upgraded brake pads, fluids and stainless-steel lines. Manthey didn't touch the GT2 RS's stock 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six, because apparently 700 horsepower is enough.

Regardless, it is the fastest street legal lap apparently, but it's not a production car record; Porsche doesn't build or offer the GT2 RS in Manthey's configuration.
