so with GT5 approaching I was finally motivated enough to set up my IR face tracking setup.

At the heart of it, is a $16 Deal Extreme IR module (link). the rest I'm sure you can figure out, a project box, playstation eye, and some servo tape.

The Playstation Eye isn't great in even slightly low light, and since I run front projection, I don't stand much of a chance with a normal setup. I'd imagine a lot of other people wanting to run in darkened rooms for a variety of other reasons would find this useful.

here's an image from it of me doing my best ghost hunter impression

Given that it's stuck to the top of a 'wheelstand pro,' the shake isn't too bad, and there should hopefully be enough image to track from. I'm not sure if I like the angle it sits at so I may wedge it more vertical and I think it needs a stick-on clock or something to zazz it up a bit. The IR module does put out a little bit of red light, if it gets bothersome, I may attempt to filter it.

Are there any other low-light face-tracking solutions floating around the forum?

Cool project!

Did you remove the IR filter from the PS Eye?

Actually no, quite a lot of the IR light gets through without doing that. Check it for yourself with an eye and a TV remote. But now that I've gone searching on the forum (and found some instructional vids), I've been debating doing just that, even though it messes with focus unless otherwise corrected.

Maybe I'll do it for an upgrade, if this isn't quite enough. The whole setup is naturally totally untested, so it may need some work with gt5.
