Hi guys,

i dont know where i shell post it, thats why i just put it in here.

i have gt 4 since alreday a long time, and i even finsihed 100%, but still there is this question...why are the KI's driving so stupid.

nobody is trying to block you nothing, or trying to overtake you in a smart way or anythingl.

like, when you go B spc or something or, when you see the KI's racing against each other, then they are driving smart with blocking and trying to overtake, but when the "player" comes, there status of driving changes. WHY???

can somebody please answer that question for me?! :)

by KI i assume you mean AI? ie) the computer
well then I think the answer is obvious, it IS artificial intelligence....

secondly (this may just be my opinion, but others' responses will tell)... the computer has a driving line that they wish to stick to on a given course - evident by how they will often come up beside you and push you sideways off of your line. So when the 5 computer controlled vehicles race each other and they're all looking to take the same line, then yes, it may look like they are blocking, or having a spirited battle.

If you choose not to take that same line, or attempt to execute passes in awkward locations, or from too far back, then the AI doesn't understand how to react to you and ends up doing something silly..... like braking for no reason, turning in on you, or ramming you.

I find 9 time out of 10 however, that if I choose to race with the AI and wait for my chances to pass, rather than just storm past by creating my own openings, *generally* they will race pretty cleanly with you. Be sure though, if you want to make a pass that you have your nose ahead of theirs at the AI's turn in point, or they will try to come across your line.

I hope I understood your question correctly....

oh, and the GT4 main forum may have been a better spot for this thread.

BL is correct, I remember hearing something about "emotion" physics in relation to one of the GT games, GT3 I think...

It's not a race report so why post it here?

As Boundary Layer says, this should be in the main GT4 forum. I'll move it for you.

It's hard for the computer to react to your driving, basically. If you drive in a very rigid and predictable line, with very little speed differential to the computer, they will dice with you, try to drive AROUND you and not into you, and, in general, behave "almost" normally. But if the speed differential is too great, or if you're going into a corner (face it, we all brake a bit too early... ), that all goes out the window.

It's down to how complicated the AI can be. The game has to process gfx, sound and the game logic (e.g. car locations, race state, physics, AI, etc). There's only so much processing to go round so if the AI was very complicated the game wouldn't run smoothly, or something else would need to be simplified.

The AI probably runs very well with itself because:
a) it's easy to develop the AI to race against itself as it will do the same thing every time (a human would do things slightly differently every time, even without trying). In effect, the game tests itself as they run situations, watch what the AI does and then alter it until they like it. Throw in a human driver, and repeat until it's useable and simple enough.
b) it's good for the game to have a demo mode with realistic looking AI drivers so that when you see any vids (on the net, inshop-demo) you buy the game.

It has also been said in interviews, etc. that the AI is kept dumb and predictable on purpose in order to satisfy certain markets. It hasn't been clear which markets, but since the Western community mostly complains about how bad the AI is, I can only assume it's the Japan market that wants the AI to drive like slot cars.

They are also one of the largest markets for the GT series.

There have been lots of questions about GT that go pretty much unnanswered. It's a lot like the crappy instruction book. More questions than answers.

Here's a good one, "What happened to the online version of the game?"

See? No answer.
