Well, I thought I had the perfect setup for GT4, a nice desk, 2005FPW Dell monitor (20.1 inch wide screen LCD), and a DFP. Needless to say, I'm really disappointed with how my PS2's output looks over S-Video cables. There's frequently shifted horizontal lines on the screen, terrible graininess, and blurry picture. It looks much better when I hook it up to my TV, but that just doesn't seem right after paying all this money for my monitor. I can't change the game to 1080i or any other video output mode without it immediately reverting back to "Normal".

Here's the tech specs for the screen. Is there anything that can be done here?

I don't imagine composite cables would make a difference, would they?

A good quality TV card and Dscaler...
You can't do that - the lag time as the image is processed would make the game unplayable.

No, composite makes the image considerably worse on the monitor.

Not really, you may want to look into them actually.

If you were talking about external converters, I'd most definitely agree, as what you've said is completely true, in their case. However, with an internal PCI interface, the lag is nearly unnoticable, if not completely nonexistant.

I actually have an older ATI capture card, and I've played PS2 and XBox on it, with DScaler, as have several friends. It's just a good as playing on the television. 👍

Interesting... it's worth a shot!

Jordan, not only does GT4 look bad with LCD monitor's, but windows will look bad also. I
too was disapppointed when I first saw an LCD monitor in action. The picture's contrast
was way too high and the picture's color depth was next to nothing. I'd rather stay with a CRT monitor.
I'd like to recommend a monitor made by Envision, more specifically a flat screen. They have excellent color depth, a high refresh rate, and a downloadable driver.

That is SOOO 1980s - Even the cheapest of capture cards today will pass the image on to the screen real time - and I promise you, if there IS a delay, you will not be able to tell - DirectX overlay is a beautiful thing. + you can do all sorts of cool stuff to the image with Dscaler if you have a powerful enough processor (1.2Ghz +)

Hogwash. I have an older Hauppage WinTV card, and there is no perceptable lag whatsoever. I have been playing GTA San Andreas and got some nice shots flying around. It would have been near impossible if there was any lag time.

Thanks for the input, guys. My previous experience with TV tuners has been bad on other PC's, but I'll give it a shot on my XPS here and see how it goes. 👍 :)

Of course, Jordan, you could sell me yours, and then order the 2405 ;)

I'd have a 2405 on the way, but just picked up a new digicam for the missus. :(

Jordan, I'd be happy to discuss it, as right now the missus is working off a 17" CRt monitor and that'd certainly make her happy.

I put GT3 on my Dell LCD in 16:9 mode using component cables and it was quite beautiful.

My suggestion is go component.

LCD's are wonderful. I love mine (all four of them). The color depth is great and the contrast can be adjusted to an excellent level.

My Dell LCD has a fantastic display. I love watching movies and HD on it. Apple has lots of great LCD displays as well.

LCD > Plasma
LCD > Projection
LCD > CRT

(The best LCD's are not quite as good as the best CRT's for display quality (yet), but the benefits of LCD outweigh the difference by a long shot).
