The PS3 has been hacked. Inevitably come backup managers which allow you to back games up to a disk. Theoretically, one could make a LEGAL back up of their GT5 disk onto an SSD installed in the PS3. I would imagine this would be faster than reading from the BD disk.

It will probably come. I had something like this for the PS2 and it saved me a few times. After a while a few of my games would start to lock up at the save point, GT4 been one. However the games would copy to the hard drive without a problem so I ran them from there and problem solved. Like you say the loading times were also much faster and that was just a standard IDE HDD not a SSD. The problem these things cause is that the security header is bypassed so its possible to Install Pirate versions of the game onto the HDD.

Some see this piracy as getting one up on the "greedy" developers of games. It does however effect the life of the game. If more people are using pirate copies than buying the game then the developers cut of revenue drops. When the sales revenue drops below a certian level the developers stop supplying updates and start releasing Payed for DLC to get the pennies rolling in again.

You could ofcourse replace your existing PS3 hard drive with a SSD and do the game install thats on the disk as is and that would still be faster!

I am definitely not condoning piracy. Luckily, I purchased the game already and any true gt5 fan would too to support PD :)
 
I hope there's a disk check for at least starting the game so as to prevent somebody from renting/borrowing the game, installing and returning it.

But anyways SSD's, especially newer model's are the X1's of storage.

I hope the next iteration of the PS will have Raid 0 support, I'd put two 256 gigers in there.
 
So.. SSD have comparable write speeds now? Hmm.. tired, I may be thinking of something different... but I thought they were fast read but slow write... assuming write would matter at all for gt5...

The OCZ ssd i have in my ps3 reads at about 300 Mb per second and writes at 280 mb(sequential read and write) if i remember correctly, Much faster than any Platter Hdd that i know of.
 
I too have the OCZ Vertex II you speak of but unfortunately since PS3 is on a Sata 1.0 which is 150mb/sec max. It's still miles faster than HDD!

I am aware that the ps3 is sata 1, I was simply saying that Ssd's are faster than platter hdd's at the moment. The Sata 1 in the ps3 wont be as much of a limit as you think, alot of the read/writes will be quite small so you wont be transfering at Sata 1 speeds alot of the time anyway, even the ocz cant transfer 4k files anywhere near sata 1 speeds.
