Nothing like a near house fire...

Yikes!

Good thing the damage was controlled.

my mom uses the oven to store extra pots and pans. She accidentally forgot that there was still a plastic spoon thingy in there and turned the oven on. Twice.

My dad is worse with the grill. Our sparker thing doesn't work so we use the hole on the side of the grill that was meant for matches or lighters. My dad, in his brilliance, decides that it's easier to lift the metal grate off the grill , stick his hand in there with the bbq lighter to get the flame going. Considering that the right burner usually doesn't get started till the gas has been flowing for about 10-15 seconds, the initial flare-up is almost 12 inches.

We STILL don't have a fire extinguisher in the house despite the silly accidents my parents are prone to.

Talentless
I'm glad things aren't worse.

That reminds me of Shel Silverstein.

"Do I like children? Yes, I do! Boiled, broiled or in a stew!"

That would be bratwurst.
Referred to in this cow-town as brats (brots).

And everyone knows that children are better sauteed.

So, last summer my dad got this el cheapo mini BBQ at Costco for $50. Stainless lid and burner, works fine. We use it on the boat, instead of getting one of those "marine" BBQ's for $250+. So we were rafted up with 3 other boats, and everyone was doing their dinners on their BBQ's. So he lit ours, but in the process forgot that he left a bic lighter in the bottom when he put it on the boat. My dad was bragging, "Oh, yeah. It's stainless steel. Fifty bucks. Works great", etc. And just, just when he was finished his spiel about how great it was, the lighter exploded!. The whole thing jumped about an inch in the air, with flames out the lid. Enough to catch everyone's attention. Put my dad in his place :D.

 That's funny.... 👍 Being from Scotland, I've seen more than my fair share of barbecue-ing disasters! :ouch:

For the Record. I did talk the wife into a Weber gas grill.
She talked me into a Fire extinguisher.

This thing is awesome. It has more temp control than the last one, and a side burner so I can boil my bratwurst in beer, before I grill 'em. My wife appreciates that the smell of boiled beer is outside.
And no, I don't waste Corona or Dos Equis on the brats. I use a good, cheap beer for that. Like Miller.
Plus the entire bottom of the grill slides out for cleaning.
It also has the gas bottle on a scale of sorts. I just have to check the scale to see how much gass I have left, and now every convenience store has gas bottles to exchange.
If you dig gas grills, and you can afford it, Weber or one of the other "upscale" grills is the way to go.

Psshh... Weber charcoal grills are where it's at. 👍

Amen.

Gas isn't real BBQ. You need wood in that sucker for it to be a BBQ. BBQ veggies and fruit is awesome. Gas grilled veggies and fruit isn't. Big difference. Like BBQ jalapenos. Fantastic stuff if BBQ'd, but a mess if gas grilled.

Solid, Event, I love both of you like brothers, but I'ma ***** slap you both!
I have very little time in my life for stuff like going to the bathroom.
I certainly don't have time to wait for the charcoal to get hot enough to cook on. I cook out about 3-4 times a week.
When I'm done, I don't have time to keep checking to make sure the coals are out and cold. (Much better for my psyche since the fire).
With the gas, I'm ready to cook in less than ten minutes. Last time we were "home", my brother cooked a boat load of meat on mom's charcoal grill. It was indeed fabulous. My bro is the bomb around the grill. He also had to tend grill for hours. My Gas Weber can be turned down far enough so that it doesn't dry out my food. And I get pretty good taste.
Plus, when I'm done cooking, I turn the thing off and in half an hour or so it's cool enough to touch.
Plus, it's really easy to clean.
When I retire, if my wife will let me eat as much meat as I eat now, I may consider a good charcoal grill. But my current lifestyle requires gas.
And with the proper accessories, I can do fruit and veggies, w/o ruining them.

Only through patience can you find peace, gaijin-san.

Congrats on your new grill.

I appreciate what you are saying.
It isn't patience I lack.
It is TIME.
I am managing a clinic that has 90 hours of nurse time.
I have one full-time nurse currently. (40 Hours)
Guess whose filling 30-50 of the remaining 50 hours of nurse time? That would be the manager. I am also TRYING to get ready for a Medicare survey.
They WILL be climbing our rectums with a microscope.
My boss is less than helpful, as she has no idea what a dialysis nurse actually does, other than pre treatment assessments, and passing meds.

So, I'm working somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 hours a pay period. Perhaps more. I need the quick option so that I may use some of my spare two to three minutes for neccessities, such as sleep.
