So, I installed Gutsy on my old Compaq (which acts as a Linux box for IM/web duty) last night, and there appears to be widespread networking difficulty. It finds the network card (some PCI NIC) fine, but the connection is horribly slow. It isn't even usable.

Just wanted to let you guys know before you go upgrading. There are a few things working for other people on www.ubuntuforums.org, but I haven't found a lot of success. I'll let you guys know if I have any luck.

Edit: Alright,,,updated my gateway's firmware (Actiontec GT704WG) and rebooted the system...Appears to be running full speed now. Good to see that one of the suggestions did work.

Edit2: Or not. I have got it working by changing the DNS servers to the ones provided by OpenDNS.

I updated to 7.10 yesterday, and my monitor didn't work, as always though, I spent 6 hours going thru dead end fixes, only to figure out on my own a easy 2 min one.

Yep, I have display issues with 7.10 as well. Version 6.06 works fine that I downloaded afterward.

Nothing against Linux, but Ubuntu being advertised as one of the the "Easy" versions of Linux, why do very simple issues like these pop along so often...?
