When playing on Prologue today I think it would be nice if we thought about today which is Remembrance Day. If you have forgotten then dont worry as I hope this thread will remind those of the brave soldiers who fought for our countries. Wear your Poppy proud and rest in peace to those that sacrificed themselves for our freedom. Today Is The Day We Remember.

I always remember these kind of days , as my father was a Korean war vet.

DAD 1935-1998

Thanks

Mods I am not at all happy that this has been moved. It's one day that people should recognise and more people visit the GT5 Prologue Forums alot more often than the Off Topic Rumble Strip. I dont find it fare who ever moved it. It's One Day.

It doesn't really have anything to do with GT5P though.

Anyway, I have no relatives who fought in the war, but it's a sad thing.

I remember this day very well. My father was a Vietnam Veteran and was with the Air Force for several decades.

Remember, remember, the 11th of November 2008, where I took my exam today and couldn't even do well.......... :guilty:
So sorry but I can't add anything much on this.

Sorry Mark, but whoever moved it was completely right to do so. I understand that you wanted the thread somewhere where most people would see it, but people go to the GT forums to discuss GT, and those people who are likely to read/respond/care about subjects such as this come here to the "Off Topic" forums. Would it be any better to have this thread filled with "Why is this thread in here?" comments? Or is it not better to have the thread in the appropriate forum where you are far more likely to get on-topic responses?

Anyway, well done for marking the occasion 👍 It's a sobering thought to consider the vast numbers of people who have fought and died to allow us to live the ways in which we do. My Grandad fought in the Second War World and lived to tell the tale, although he rarely talked about the time he spent in France - ironic that those were days he would never forget, but almost certainly wanted to...

remember what?!
war? war for what? freedom? not freedom, money! you kill people for money, sorry if your dad or brother die in those wars, but those are wars for money: korea, vietnam, irak, afganistan and irak, irak, irak
Why you people dont stay in your country and leave the rest of world in peace, we, the world want peace not korea, not afganistan, not irak.
Please open your eyes.

Forget about invading your piss tank country, worry about spelling correctly.

A simple Bud commercial...

Please can we all show some respect in this thread and stop posting immature and foolish comments.

Please remember 2nd April 1982 when your lot went invading someone else's land. I find your pious rhetoric distasteful.

The trouble with war is that even when you don't believe in the cause, people fight and die in them. Those are the people who should be remembered, whose memories should be honoured.

remember what?!
war?

No. Remember service personnel who have fallen in any conflict. It's not a celebration of war, but Remembrance of those affected by it.

Thanks to the men and women who fought for our freedom and liberties. May you rest in peace.

I think its days like these we should remember the people still fighting around the world.

I don't believe it's right to only remeber those that have fallen, but those that have suffered in the service, bot mentally and physically.

And I hope my mate "Dappa" isn't to join them.

Yes, of course we were there to kill for money, since Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan are just FULL of natural resources for us to steal. Our treasury is just full of dollars we have stolen using our powerful military machine.

Except that US gasoline prices DOUBLED in the first 3 years we were in Iraq and are only now returning to what they were before the invasion. Of course we are just there to steal their oil and get rich. Too bad we are losing billions of dollars a month there - I guess we're just too stupid to have figured that out ahead of time.

It's not possible we are there for a different reason. That would not agree with what you believe.

Yes, I realize that Argentina is not Venezuela, but it is ignorant people who do not understand history (or even basic facts) that keep electing leaders like Hugo Chávez. You'll believe everything bad about the United States but don't have time or interest to learn anything good.

Now, on the original topic -

Thank you to all the servicemen and servicewomen of all good countries who have done their duty in the face of such ignorance and hate. This day is much more than a day the banks and schools are closed. It is a day to salute all those who have served and those who have died.

In particular, I'd like to offer thanks to my good friends Der Alta and Gil, both of whom served their country well, and to any other GTP members who have been in their country's military.

It's really big to insult a non-native speaker on their English skills. Also, his ignorant comments aside, it's just as ignorant to call somebody's home country a piss tank.

Seriously though, a big thanks to all who have served for their countries, and my prayers go out to those no longer with us.

I would tend to agree with your sentiment, but your tact was very poor.

You might not think freedom has anything to do with invading foreign countries, and I would agree with you. However there are people here who have family members (or they themselves!) that were involved in foreign conflicts. You don't need to show them respect, but at least keep your mouth shut.

I can't respect their roles as servicemen and women based on principle, but I respect them as individuals. Some gave the ultimate sacrifice for what they believed in, and that is worth respecting.

I'll keep that in mind when I remember my grandfather who volunteered and was in World War II.

A little respect. Today is not about only certain wars, but the men who have served in ALL wars.

You really and truly need to go back to school and review your history and try to comprehend what these wars were really about , certainly was not about money. I really dare you to come face to face with a veteran who served his/ her country and make that same statement.

Buenos Aires - South America - didn't a bunch of WWII Nazi criminals run to South America during , after the war to hide out there ? Harboring criminals , this is a real good thing to do while our boys are getting shot and killed fighting for freedoms ?

Hey Lennon its not worth letting what is prob some 13 year old kid rattle you. Those of us who were BLESSED enough to be born of a Father who had the brass to serve his country, are very fortunate indeed. Those who have served in wars of every decade deserve NOTHING but our RESPECT among those is my Father 1934 - 1999 US NAVY Korea.

It was a little odd talking about Armistice Day when doing a presentation about a book that opened discussing what Hitler, Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt were doing 90 years ago. I hadn't even thought of it until I got up on the podium and started reading those first lines from the book...

If there is anything to learn from those readings, from watching some of the other films I have been doing for research work, is that these men and women hold the duty of service above all, and are willing to die for our countries (respectively). None of us can thank them enough for what they've done, and this is our day to honor them. All of them. In wars "good" or "bad."

I've had a lot of family serve in different branches of the military, and last I had heard, I still have a cousin who is in the Iraqi Theater. I have not heard much lately, unfortunately.

Thanks Dubs.
My father also served Korea , U.S. Army

Friend and brother (of another mother),
Thanks for the acknowledgement.
Also, Thank you for speaking to that (expletive deleted) before I got here.
I might have been lacking in tact.

It is a serious thing to enter the military these days.
No one in the US Military is a draftee or a conscript.
We all have/had our reasons for joining.
Some to make some money for college.
Some to learn a job skill that they can use in "the world".
Some to watch the back of a friend that joined (thanks Clay and Bill)
But we ALL gave up our freedoms for a season to defend a way of life we believe in.

You wanna burn a flag? Somebody fought and died for your right to do so.
Wanna dis a soldier, sailor or marine? They fought and died for your right to do that too.

If you really wanna find out what we did, and why...put down your history book, turn off CNN. Go down to your recruiter's office, sign on the line, and say: "Here I am! Send me!"

After you've done that, come back and dis veteran's and I'll take it with a smile.

Pay2021, and those of you who just don't get it,
We didn't join up cause we were looking for a fight.
We didn't join up to pop a cap in somebody's ass.
Personally, I just needed money for college, and my folks weren't rich.
However, when the fight came, somebody had to go.
We went.

How dare you? Show some respect you ungrateful person. Try learning some respect and spelling before making a stupid statement like that.

My grandfather fought in the war and sacrificed his life among the other brave soldiers. It affected the whole world so dont act like you don't care. If you saw someone brutelly killed right in front of you (Not implying I have at all) then your so callled opinion on the subject would likely change. Go hide behind your screen.

Folks, we don't need to prolong the argument - pay2021's misconceptions have already been dealt with, and in any case the notion that he could in all seriousness say:

Why you people dont stay in your country and leave the rest of world in peace

When he lives in Argentina, a nation who sent their military to invade British territory within the lifetimes of many of us, renders whatever "thoughts" he may have quite irrelevant.

Actually, the First World War was no money problem, it all started with the rapit growth of Germany and Russia, and the fact that Germany felt threatened by the allianse of Great Britain-France-Russia in their western and eastern borders, but let's not get there, shall we?

A word of respect here, those men fought hard for their people, whichever country they're from. Whether it were Germans, Britains, Russian, Belgian or French, every single men was overcast by a cloud of violence and bloodshedding, especially those forced into the war. One really needs to see some documentaries to see the full scale of it, and just how awful those times must have been...

Let these men rest in peace and let us hope that such wars will never happen again.
