The RACB (Royal Automobile Club Belgium) announced today that they are adding a new category to the Belgian Rally championship: Group GT.

This category is open for every car homologated to the FIA N-GT regulations. This means cars like Ferrari Modena 360, Porsche 911 GT3, Morgan, ... , Viper, Lamborghini Diablo GTR, ...

This will finally be possible again:

I really hope people will find the budget to run these cars, some tuner is already thinking about a GT3 Cup RALLY!!

Let's hope the FIA makes this possible on WRC level!!
What do you think?
 
That would be great to watch. Of course they'd stay on pavement, right?

That would suck. Imagine a Murcielago 3 feet in the air, covered in mud and dust, in the middle of the Zambia desert. Yummy.
 
That is definitely my idea of fun. Heheheheh C5R kickin up tha dust.
 
I have often wished for the wrc to become a more open racing class... The greatest resiriction is the amount of cars that must be produced in order to fulfill class n requirements... i think like 2500 a year...

I hope this marks a return to what the world of rallying should be... dam fast cars on dam crappy roads with dam crazy drivers...

the 308 and 288 look similar...
this is a 288 gto... built and homologated for grouppe b rally
how r you sure its a 308?

You might want to do some research into how Group B rallying finished up to see what happened last time we tried this.

Try entering 'Group B Toivenen' into Google and see how you go.

It would be an interesting subcategory for Group N - but I could see it getting out of hand pretty quickly.

Very true pr... I know that a 288 gto is infinitely better than a 308 anything, its just i have always found their looks so similar. Thanks for the head to head comparison. Its easy to see that the 308 is uglier and it seems longer, doesnt have a spoiler, has a side forced intake, and a completely different front end...

Vat man i know what happened with group b. But you have to agree that group b was exciting. Imagine a resurrection in a more limited fashion with the precautions that are put implace to keep people the hell away from the tracks and such... I dunno i am too young to have ever watched them in real time but i have several group b vids and i think they are awesome. I agree that loss of by human life is unacceptable, and while driver and co driver death is also not desired its almost impossible to completely avoid...

Really, all i would like to see is a section open to more specialized cars rather than only allowing mass produced vehicles to enter. Put limits on them, i dont care, weight to power or weight to displacement... just open up rally to more companies... and of course to technology

Returning to the topic: Just imaging the amount of money that has to have the teams if you lend a XXXXX (put ferrari, lamborghini, porsche......) to a driver like Colin McRae (the crashing-car man).

Seeing a 288 catching 3 feet of air in a finnish forest.. That would ROCK ! :crazy:
 
Teams putting money into this and a higher level of competition arising could turn ugly. I'm only saying "could".
However that doesn't mean it hasn't been/is being done. Watch a Targa New Zealand or Newfoundland, both tarmac events yet some nice exotics appear on events like those, and of course some competitors aren't as lucky as others and they can end up a bit 'dented'.

I still remember these guys that smashed their ultra-rare Austin Healy into some other car that was sitting on sideways on the road :( there were some bad weather conditions.
 
yeah tarmac only tho... cant imagine them going off road.
