With the new format, I've decided to switch firewall programs. I am now using ZoneAlarm (Thanks to Toyomatt for one of his Computer Essentials threads. That's what I looked at to decide on this). I used to have Norton Internet Security, but that was confusing for someone who is Networkly challenged. My brother knows networking, but he is in college, so I have to learn it. Norton also seemed to use too many resources, which are vital to someone with only 512MB RAM.

Have any of you used ZoneAlarm and what are your impressions of it? I have started it up 30 minutes ago and I like it so far. Very simple to configure. I haven't tried any p2p, Bittorrent, or set up my FTP yet, so I still have yet to make a complete decision about it.

Hmmm.. Wondering if you want my opinion or not.....
Of course I do. That was the point of this thread! :p

I don't know alot about this computer crap but I use ZA and it's been the best so far that I've tried... doesn't give me any hassles and it doesn't take up resource to me it seems even when working with graphic intense stuff.

I used to use it until 4.5 Then, I got 5.5 and it didn't work with p2p, so I got Outpost.

All of the 5 versions had some kind of a negative effect to my computer and/or my internet connection so I'm sticking with 4.5 for awhile. Its done me good so far.

I too am a ZA believer. I believe it is the best yet, unless you have an improper shutdown and you have to reboot. Stupid red box with yellow cross.

I have a router with a hardware NAT firewall, so I don't use any software firewalls (ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, and the list goes on...).

I used to use ZoneAlarm before I got the router and it did the job though. However, the Windows Firewall has been vastly improved in XP SP2 and I'd probably just use it (for the sake of lazyness) if I didn't have my hardware firewall.

I use a hardware firewall, along with the SP2 firewall.

Both hardware and software firewalls are not perfect, but using both helps more than just one. Still not perfect, though.

However, don't know where I heard this, but "It's better to have a cheap lock on your backdoor than no lock at all."
