Had a couple runs last night. Thinking we might be able to pull this one off every :15. Anyone agree, think otherwise?

I had the NSX there, and by the end of the night was pulling down 2 min flat. I think sub 2 minutes is possible.

As much as Daytona road can become mind numbing from a driving perspective and how some drivers can exploit bugs in the track map (i.e. the chicane and using the grass as track with no penalty) this race is fun for a bit.

I'm in a NSX-R still using my old Suzuka pp550 tune that runs 2'00s flat, 1'59s taking risks and faster with the draft..2'01.5s are it's comfortzone though. At some point I'll start tuning for the track and lap times closer to 1'57s will be common for average laps I have a feeling.

The 512b is less competitive than I thought it would be, both in the races I saw last night (albeit the drivers driving them were not the fastests) but in my hands as well (agian, not the fastest ever here). I was a good 2 seconds off my NSX times with the 512b, but then again I don't have much experience tuning the 512b... I'm sure those who know the car will get it where it should be.

I also noticed most people are favoring power over handling (slick tires with higher BHP) which if that stays like that will open the door for more cars (F430s, corvettes, etc).

I'll be curious to see how this race develops in NTSC and PAL.

Oh, and to be safe on race pairing, let's keep it at 20mins. Say 02, 22, 42?

:20 minute intervals are better, just to allow tuning, not to mention a bit of wiggle room in case of a matching failure or other error.
 
I cannot race with you guys as i am PAL, just wanted to say that i'm sure someone as recorded a 1.59.0?? here in your forum with the NSX and as for the 512BB sub 2.00 are not too hard to do, even with the difference catching the draft could mean the race is not dominated by the NSX, also depends on where you start the race. Not sure why, i always tend to start at the back :sick:

That's funny, I raced a GTP guy late Thursday night in my 91 NSX, he in an M3. I was toast if I lost the draft, could only do 2:02.0 alone.
Have switched to RX-7, and can do 2:01.3 alone, on just a re-geared Suzuka setup.
having said that, there are many more good M3s now, compared to Suzuka 550pp.
 
I managed to pull off a 159:4 in the NSX and a 200:5 in the 512 in practice, The NSX is faster but you can have a hard time keeping some one behind you on the oval part, with the 512 if you are any where near them coming on to the oval section you will get them and even with the draft a fast guy in an NSX will have a hard time getting by, The 512 is super fast in a staright line

After some more runs, the 512BB is certainly just as potent a weapon as the NSX. The Clios are also very good at breaking away on the straights, making it hard to maintain a draft.

This has been a great event for me so far. This morning there were a bunch of pansies out there cheating at the chicane, but this evening I had a series of excellent clean races.

I really enjoy races like this one where so many different cars are at least reasonably competitive. I was out there in the 512, the TVR speed 6, and a number of others. I was only winning in the 512, but in all the cars I tried I felt that I had a chance if only I could turn a few "perfect laps".

sansname was out there running clean races in the Jaguar. Not super-fast (neither am I), but good and clean and well-fought.

Back on topic, have you ever thought of running a handicap event here?

For the first race, everyone starts at 525pp and you go from there.

When's the best time to find fuller grids in this event? I'm on Pacific time and I've never had more than 4 people on the grid in the evenings. Doesn't seem to make much difference on whether I try to line up the :02, :22, :42's either.
Anyways, I've been using the F40 on this one 'cause it's a wicked handful, but sooo rewarding when you get it right!

Welcome. The :02 :22 :42 start time schedule is GTPlanet specific, an effort to reduce randomness. Non-members of this site (if they are paying attention) start at the top of the hour, then figure out how to start on a standard interval. Every :20 minutes is logical @ DRC due to 5 laps X 2 minutes + Matching and Credits. Same timeframe with AWD @ Suzuka currently.

If you want your friendslisters to join you, put your schedule in your comment box. I've been doing this recently, it's always a nice surprise to find a 'known' driver on the grid with you.
 
It was another great evening out there for me. I haven't even been bothering to stick to the schedule and yet I ran around 5 races this evening with a lot of clean drivers. I'm finding a lot of cars to be competitive - this may go down as my favorite event yet, it has a great balance. I entered at least one race in which nearly everyone was driving something different, and yet the pack stayed fairly tight (within 1/4 lap or so). Wish I had the time to make a long evening of it instead of just popping in for a few quick races.

Spent about two hours out there this evening. For those who haven't tried this event out yet - you need to give it a run. I've had a series of super-clean excellent races with a lot of non- GTP tagged drivers. I thought this event would be a cheat-fest at the bus-stop, but I've been thoroughly surprised. Again tonight we had events without a single duplicate car model. It is a hell of a lot of fun.

In two hours I wasn't punted once (and was only touched a few times) and didn't see a single driver cutting the bus-stop. I've never seen an event this cleanly run (hope I'm not jinxing it!)

Good. I haven't run here much lately, but I've heard from my friendslisters that the driving has improved lately. I did a single race (random entry time) last night, and had a reasonably good 3-car battle with two drivers I don't remember seeing ever before. I was the worst chicane-jumper out of the three, due to incompetence.
 
Just curious what people consider "cheating" at the bus stop. The way I figure it, keep two wheels on the track at all times. I drive over the curbing, just as I would in real life. I might breifly touch the grass with a wheel, but just breifly.

Is that considered "cheating"?
 
"Short cutting the bus stop" is when you drive completely off track at the entrance, turning the left/right sequence into a mere gentle left.

I do the same thing. Last night i was using the RX-7 and on that bus-stop/chicane i am riding the rumble strips with 2 wheels (outer wheels) i may touch the grass slightly, but i DEFINATELY slow down for the first left turn, i don't barrel over the grass to the striaght section. Last night i was playing and i ran into a guy PSN "stick-shifter". I have run into him before on this same event a few days ago (both times he was running a Black Clio). This guy would swerve like a drunken driver on the straights to try and break the slipstream. And on the final lap after the final bend/straight i came through the chicane/bus-stop faster than him so i was able to catch his slipstream, ride his bumper and make the pass. When doing so he decided he didn't want to lose and started bumping/side-swiping me. Luckily my drifting skills kept the car straight and i was still able to win. Keep in mind at the beginning of the 4th lap i WAITED up for this guy to make a more close/interesting race.

Now the race immediately after was great. It was just me and a guy named "heddie". I was just a tad quicker on certain sections. But for the most part we were racing back and forth against each other. Good time. I try my best not to bump or hit people, keep my line without blocking theirs. Once and a while with lag you end up on top of someone. But overall if everyone is trying to race clean...it's a good time. :)👍

It was actually a close battle, going back and forth, with me getting the win on the last lap. No issues with side swiping, although he did brush me a bit passing on the inside. No biggie, though.
 
I plan on racing tonight. Just registered here, been racing this race a decent amount the past couple weeks. I'm usually in a 135tii, or M3. Not the fastest but I race pretty clean. Hope to see you guys tonight

I've run quite a number of races against STICK-SHIFTER as well, and he was always clean except for the weaving on the straights. In all likelihood he simply isn't aware that weaving that much is considered un-sportsmanlike. In all other ways he has been very clean in the races we've shared. He is still running his blazing-fast Clio. He's got a very fast tune on that car - my guess is he is running fairly hard tires and thus has a lot of power. Passing him in the corners is fairly easy, but staying ahead, not so easy! In a couple races last night we were within a tenth of a second of each other (he won both of them). In both cases it was down to the phenomenal acceleration he's got in that thing.
