Just wondering around what the count currently is for events in GT4, I know GT2 had about 100, GT3 about 150, but with over 500 cars this time around who knows, it could be well over 200, I hope it's over 300, I'm talking anything from three race events that you can enter in any order to tournaments which if you exit you have to start over. I want more Enduro's but be able to save when making a pit stop, hopefully more events with Formula one.
Maybe there will even be seasons we can enter, like 20 race seasons. I want tons of events, and they should bring back what GT2 had, almost every manufacturer in the game had there own series of races you could enter on random courses, that would be nifty with over 500 cars in GT4, that alone could make up over 200 events if each manufacturer had 2-3 events you could enter.
The ultimate thing would be if we could construct our own events, choose the races, opponents, prize money, etc, that way the game would never get old.

RockyBalboa, welcome to GTPlanet! I'm afraid to tell you this, but it is being mentioned in another topic, okay? I can't tell you which one, so that is why you'll have to search. If you are with the main page of GT4 Forums, it shouldn't be hard to find. Just go to the very bottom and look for a text box where you can type in search results. Type in something like "number championship events." I didn't say "number OF championship events" because words longer than three letters will be searched.

But, PLEASE search first. I know a lot of newcomers don't want to do such a thing, but you're kind of better off searching first, alright, Rocky? So have fun on the Planet! I'm John, by the way. Houston, Texas, USA.

No problem John.
Problem is now I brought this topic back to the top, but what the heck, the reason I didn't use the search function was because a lot of forums dont have them, at least I cant find them, so I didn't bother checking.
Good day to you too

GT2 had less than 50 events (each event being the FF races or GT All stars ect not each individual race), GT3 has around 100 events (again it's not each individual race, it's the entire series be it individual races or a series cup). GT4 will have over 200 events so around twice as amny as GT3.

As I've said, GT2 was a good game. The only downside in my view was its execution. I mean, think about it. GT2 had Rome-Night for a license test, but not one race used the track. I think a rally race on a dirt-covered Motor Sports Park would have put some use into the track for the rally sake. And then, the GT-sanctioned events are kind of a joke. The two championships (GT300 and GT500) could have been put in the GT2's Gran Turismo events. GT2 had a lot of races, but paled in comparison to GT3's. In terms of variety, GT2 may have a slim edge over GT3.

When it comes to these events, GT2 and GT3 had a mixed formula. In GT2, you choose based on the type of race, and the proper license is needed to race there. In GT3, you choose between the level of races. Easier and shorter races are in the Beginner's Events. Harder and longer events are in the Professional Events. I think if GT4 can combine the two so that you don't get too confused with the different races of one category, GT4 will be king in not only making choosing races, but sorting them out so that you don't have to remember which race is in which lineup of events.

Now as a side question to ask the whole of GTPlanet, would you want manufacturer-specific races and one-make races be held at the car dealer, or in the "Go Race" menu?

Normally, I'd counterattack that statement, but you're right. I love nighttime. But even then, that course could have been put to good use. I could race that than racing Super Speedway in Gran Turismo All-Stars. The track is a mix of chalenging, but also kind of fun. Hell, it could have been a daytime race. Maybe the orginal Rome Circuit in the game could have added this track (that is, if the two tracks aren't far apart from each other) and made a "Rome Circuit Endurance Course." And if that happened, the track would be put to good use, but also make for a more exciting experience.

But in my view, you just don't leave perfectly-fine tracks out to rot. I mean, you just cannot.

would you want manufacturer-specific races and one-make races be held at the car dealer, or in the "Go Race" menu?
One of the most popular manufacturer-specific racing days in Australia is the HSV/HDT track days which are organised and run by the HSV/HDT club. You would be hard pressed to find a track day that is organised by the dealer, in Australia anyway. Therefore I think races which include one make or model should be in the "Go Race" menu.

And if they are in the "Go Race" category, you'll have to find a series that goes with your car. I probably can't say "considerations," but what I would consider is if you choose a car, and maybe see an icon that you can race in a series. If you see such an icon, you can click on it and learn more information about what one-make series are available. There should be a bunch of manufacturer-specific races just like in GT2. GT3 was a little more professional with one-make races. And in a way, I don't mind racing cars from many companies even if I don't like them. This exploration made GT2's "get to 100%" goal fun. Now, I mentioned this icon within the showroom so that you can easily link to the "Go Race" event that sponsors the one make/model races. Racing one make/model events that are more professional (for example, Beetle Cup) should be in "Go Race" for sure. As rewards for your efforts, it would be nice to win new cars and more money for winning these events. So good call, Schrodes.

GT2 had 38 events not including dirt events. And about 100 actual races. I can't be bothered to count the races in GT3, there are too many.

Schrodes, you notice GT3 didnt have an icon for each car manufacturer, it had a car dealer section, and unless they do a GT2 and have east city etc. etc. they should have it back at Go race. It annoyed me to have to go to the manufacturer to tune the car.

regarding manufacturer races, I think that in the beginner league it should be random, whereas in the pro league it should be selected, so you cant skip it if u dont like the track.

There should be a combination of manjufacturer spot races like in GT2 that are on a random track, but they should also have a large number of manufacturer cups that are multiple races either single or series but on set tracks.

Having the championship races run in a random order would at least remove a bit of the predictability of the game as you progress through a series.

Just like in American college football, nothing like a good rivalry matchup. If you want to focus on different makes, try out putting Chevy and Ford together. If you're into Japan, Toyota vs. Nissan. Granted that Australia is represented, Holden and Ford Australia. The higher up the ladder you go, the more professional the cars and racing will be. I wouldn't be surprised to see V8 Supercars in the Amateur Ranks, but more challening races in the Pros.

It would also harm the games realism, and you would run the risk of playing the same tracks too often and other tracks almost never, if the tracks are chosen by PD for each series then the most appropriate tracks for that series will be used.

And that's why they did championships like American sports cars or Japanese championship or what ever they were called for.

I think you misunderstood live4speed. I'm not advocating that the tracks be chosen randomly from the whole list of available tracks. PD can still designate 10 races to be part of a championship and each championship will always use the same tracks, but when you take part in the championship, those 10 tracks are presented in a random order. Calendars change in real racing, this might add a bit of variety.

One thing that got me upset about GT2 was that when you wanted to race a track with the one-make or one-series cars, you go to a track. Thing is, you don't know in WHICH DIRECTION the track will be. For example, you could be racing Midfield, but when you think you're going the normal route, you go in reverse! Like I said, GT2 is not a bad game, just that some of the execution and clunkiness hampered what could have been a much better game than GT1.

Does it actually tell you in the GT3 menus whether you're playing normal or II? Either way from the load screen we saw at E3 it tells you your car and track doesn't it? So you'd know for sure then.

I favor the following race type of events
  1. GT2 horse power settings for majority of events
  2. most race series to be composed of 5 races, but have maybe more race series, and maybe more laps per race 5 to 15
  3. manufactor races to be held inside the race menu, but seprate from other events
  4. if and I am guessing it will be there qualifying, have bonus money for pole position
  5. all except for very beginer races have entry fees
  6. a.i. drivers use greater range of cars at least 75 percent of all vehicles in the game
  7. a.i. drivers use random cars as much as possible so that the races are less dull
  8. extra prize money for fastest lap, best overall race time
  9. wider selection of prize cars, and colors, maybe even have parts as prizes
  10. option of taking prize car or cash ( cash value might be less the trade value of car )
  11. wont happen in GT4, but in next addition maybe have a.i. choose cars from your garage that are eligible ( at least in arcade mode )
  12. More race limitations, perhaps car value limit, maybe pick random car from garage
  13. more or better endurance race would be good, but only with save feature 1/2 way or 1/4 way on longer races
  14. random course ideals on events would be very nice
  15. I would like to see the simulation mode use almost all the race courses
  16. If we have time of day, weather options, have that greater used in the race events
  17. If a.i. has differnt built in settings, such as excellent, good, average, poor have them be random, meaning the excellent a.i. does not drive the same car unless in a series
  18. save track records while racing not just while testing
  19. wouldnt it be kool if simulation mode was online also ? imagine competing against others for prize cars and cash
  20. I hope they do have some good event generators.
    [/list=1]

GT3 has several races in sim. mode inwhich you can only win one car one time with out restarting the game, I see know point in that. if so then at least have the car available for purchase at maybe 75 percent complete or whatever.

Yes it does, whe you selesct a track or when ever the track name is on screen if you select the reverse the tracks name will have II at the end of it.

I'm going to be honest. That "II" needs to be gone. If a track is going to be reverse, it should say "II." The ONLY time you need to slap on that reference is if you are talking about different configurations. For example, Grand Valley and Grand Valley East. But if the main circuit has a reverse, it would be either: "Grand Valley- Reverse," "Grand Valley-R," "(Reverse) Grand Valley," or anything with some designation of reverse. So with Grand Valley's example, the two tracks would be Grand Valley, Grand Valley Reverse, Grand Valley 2, and Grand Valley 2 Reverse. And if you're going to race a track in reverse in a series or championship, the caption should say reverse and maybe have an "R" above. Either an "R" or the letter "R" in reverse with an arrow pointing west. Okay?

I just wish that when you selected an event to race in, the game could look at what car you have chosen to use and with what modifications and put the same or similar modifications on the cars you would be racing against. That way, when you are in a race, you know the other cars will be braking as late as you, will be able to get around a corner as quick as you and may well be able to overtake you if you get a bit taily coming onto a straight. It would be far more interesting than being able to brake 20 car lengths later or blow away the opposition down the straight in the same type of car.

Well, I was just suggesting that because if you're going to have different configurations, why not have them included? Even if Fuji didn't have that little chicane after that sweeping right straight, I'd still want to call the track variation "2." Think of it as Variation 1, Variation 2, Variation 3, and so on. Or imagine adding more roads to New York or Hong Kong. You can do it like:

New York & New York 2

...or...

New York GP Course & New York Long Course

Just some of the few ideas I've had. And I'm only being suggestive.

I was actually sort of impressed with the concept of Grand Valley Speedway and Grand Valley East Section in the original GT, it was about the only time we didn't have to suffer incremental version numbers representing variations on a track.

We both want different versions to be included if they can be. You just never see real world tracks with [2] for a title, there's Nordschleife and whatever_the_german_for_south_is schleife, something meaningful.

Grand Valley East ---------- I had many great 2 player races on that track, one of my all time favorite tracks. I would welcome short versions of bigger tracks to return in GT4. How many short tracks could be made out of complex string ?

Simple answer, Greenlightning... NONE!

"Nordsschleife" would be the answer to your question, Eagle. Even I couldn't spell or pronounce the doggone word. As a strange thought, I imagine a mode where you can configure the track where you can add/subtract sections of track for custom configurations. You can use it for testing or just wondering how the track would be with/without the different parts of the track. Imagine racing down the Mulsanne at Le Mans without those two chicanes. Since it's a game, you can't overrev. If it was real, your engine would give out. How about this one?
