Hello and welcome to this mornings race here at the historic Nordschleife circuit at Nurburgring, Germany. I am Peter Ramsey and will be commentating thought the 4 hour race.

The time is approaching 11am, the weather is overcast, but there is no sign of rain, and the crowed are looking forward to the race which will be starting in a few minuets time.

Let’s have a look at the cars as their crews make some last minuit changes to the settings.

1. Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi sp.C '04
2. Chevrolet Corvette GRAAND SPORT (C4) '96
3. Honda NSX Type S '01
4. BMW M Coupe '98
5. Pontiac GTO 5.7 Coupe '04
6. Lotus Esprit V8 SE '98

The cars are now starting their rolling start as they go towards the start of the course.....And its GO GO GO. The Subaru getting away in first. Corvette in 2nd, NSX close behind, M Coupe some way behind that, the Pontiac defends 5th, with the Lotus close behind, Looking for the overtake, he's in 5th. 2 seconds behind the BMW in 4th.

The Vette is.... no wait the Lotus battling for 4th, and he's got it.

The cars now coming through Karussel for the first time this race. With the British car careering through the field, looking to overtake the Vette. Side by side down the straight, the Lotus has more power ensuring he gets 3rd.

meanwhile up the pack, the NSX looking to overtake the Impreza in 1st.

The Lotus has lost it on a corner, back into 4th.
They are side by side on the bridge. The Orange Esprit just can't overtake, but he just did. He storms into the distance.

1 and a half laps in the NSX got 1st. Lets see what lap-times he can do now!

With the Lotus homing in on the Subaru, now, what can he do? He got 2nd, the Impreza losing out in 3rd.

Down the straight, this is a straight battle for 1st, Japan v Britain, Lotus v Honda, Chapman v Soichiro.

After another lap the Brit is winning.

That Lotus just put in a great lap, a 7.55 compared to the NSX's 8.01

Right now it is coming up to the first pit time of the day.

The lotus spins off, that is bad, taking a while to recover, falls into 2nd place, power sliding round the track, no-grip at all, this is racing at its best, the Honda stays out for another lap, the Lotus and Subaru pit. The Honda now with a substantial lead, but the NSX yet to pit. This is what endurance racing is all about, one eights of the way into this gruelling race.

The NSX slides off, just before pitting, can the Lotus catch up, no, but he's damn close. Just 3 seconds between them. BMW pits, as does the Pontiac.

Has the Chevy, he can't stay out this long, we must have missed him. 0.3 seconds separating the leading cars.

The Lotus using all of its 381 horses to get in front. Down the straight, side by side. 160mph action.

The Lotus being conservative, wants the tyres to last as long as they possibly can.

The Vette pits, this must be the first time, he has been out for ages.

I suspect the Lotus is trying to keep on the NSX's tail, and he'll go for the overtake on the straight.

On the straight, the Lotus pulls in front, but slides of at the end of the straight, rejoins in 2nd.

Impreza pits, The Lotus backing off, he knows what could happen.

Lotus spins off, that was big, and again, now some way behind the NSX.

Will the NSX pit, I suspect he will, no, he stays out.

Lotus pits, Subaru leapfrogs him. All he can do is hope the NSX makes some big mistake.

The Lotus now 1.50 behind the NSX who, lets not forget, still has to pit.
The Honda slides off just before pitting but gets back out in first.

The Lotus has, slowly but surly, got right behind the Subaru, after a bit of a bash he's past, now just 8 and a half thousand feet before the NSX and first place. The Lotus power slides into the pits .As he leaves the Subaru enters.

The NSX slides... but stays out for another lap, this is a real chance for the Lotus to catch up.

The Honda just lapped the Pontiac, this will make it even harder for the Lotus, unless the Honda unlaps himself when pitting... Which he does.

We are now half way into this 4 hour event.

The Lotus pits in early to avoid maximum tyre wear, while the NSX risks all and stays out an extra two laps

The NSX is sliding uncontrollably as it comes in to the Pits again.
There is now not very far at all between first and second, although the Lotus will be looking to pit very shortly.

Now three hours into the race here are the current positions

1. Honda NSX
2. Lotus Esprit
3. Subaru Impreza
4. Chevriolet Corvette
5. BMW M Coupe
6. Pontiac GTO

The Lotus comes in to pit... but he misses, he'll have to do another lap. This is a disaster.
A dreadful lap from the lotus on badly worn tyres, its a 10.07. His chances of winning are shattered as he is now half a lap behind the Honda.

Only 4 minuets left, and with the Honda still 3 minuets in front, he is sure to win, The Lotus crosses the finish line, but is a Lap down on the Honda, all he has to do is drive to victory!

The NSX crosses the line and WINS!!!!

As the drivers collect their trophies and prise money, I am left with a feeling, that Sir Jackie was wrong, this is no 'Green Hell' this is the Tarmac Heaven!

Cool write-up, new guy! It's almost as if you were watching the replay, pausing it and then writing sentence or 2. Makes it easy to read. 👍

Or running the entire race in B-spec :sly: which is about the only possible way the Lotus could:-

a) Lose this race!
and b) Lose this race by missing the pit-entry and then opting to attempt another lap on red tyres! :dunce:

Any sane A-spec driver missing pit lane on worn tyres either turns round or reverses back to pit entrance to avoid this sort of embarrassment! 👍

Does this count as cheating?

No, B-spec is a feature of the game and you've opted to use it. How would that be cheating? :indiff:

Cheating is using a Game Shark or AR Max device to set the race length to 1 lap, winning the race and then claiming victory in a 4 hour race! :yuck:

However, to some folks around here, myself included, B-spec is considered a soft option since you don't have to drive yourself (which is of course the much more enjoyable option) and as you've seen the computer driver is prone to making such ridiculous mistakes as missing the pitlane and throwing away the race! :dunce: That's the reason I've never used it. :D

I personally don't consider B-spec to be cheating unless you've got a car that's way overpowered or has a wing attached (and the ai does not). Soemthing like that.

The problem i have with b-spec is (if you do it all the time and for every endurnace race) you miss out on alot of good times! You basically are hiding yourself from the reason you bought the game in the first place.

I have changed my mind.

After doing a 10 lap race at the Nordschleife, in a M3, lasting about 1hour 40 minuits, I have seen the light and will now use A-spec in every race (apart from maybe 24 hour ones, but I will drive part of them myself)

You mean something exactly like this? :yuck:

I tend to use B-spec on The El Capitan edurance, using a toyota 88cv-Race Car and a chapparal 2j

^ Total overkill! 👎

A little work on the amount of spelling mistakes here wouldn't go amiss Peterram430, correct a few of them and you have yourself a good report! Worth some rep points from me at least! ;) (PM me if you'd like some help. 👍)

^ Total overkill! 👎

Not if you're doing it only to win the race. No point letting the game play with itself for three hours only to finish second :ouch: If you're doing it for the money / prize car, may as well be sure of the win. In fact, might be worth adding the turbo stage 4 to be 110% sure 💡

On the other hand, if you're doing it in the interests of reality and equality, then yeah, a Group C car in the El Capo endurance somewhat misses the mark

Me too, I used to do all the enduros B-spec and a lot of the normal races B-spec too...but Im going back and Re-doing some of the enduros A-spec (as can be seen by my recent GTAS, SS150, Infineon World Sports Car Race and Fuji 1000km reports)...I'm also going to be doing (soon hopefully) some of the longer enduros eg Lemans 24hours, but I'll be using the B-spec mode partially as this is probably more realistic...after all, no driver has ever done the entire LM24hrs IRL on their own have they? I may be wrong :)

The late Frenchman Pierre Levegh (later killed in the worst racing accident ever, also at Le Mans) almost made it. "In 1952, driving single-handedly, his car suffered an engine failure in the last hour of the race with a four lap lead. This failure was probably caused by a missed gear change due to driver fatigue."

Thanks to Wikipedia for the text in quotation marks.

dang! thats a lon time driving! Good write up, i lost focus because there were no coloring pages or pictures though.

Wow, how...informative. I my have to do this for the next 24h enduro I A-Spec (most likely Sarthe II in a '04 Pescarolo w/ no mods except tires).

I use b-spec only on 24 hour races... bu im a bit scared because the last race i did i woke up and my car was caught in a sort of glitch were Bob(the b-spec driver) would keep drving into the same wall ove and over... I dont use b-spec much anyways, B-spec ruins the fact that Gt4 is a real drving simulator...

Cheers

I just did that race Saturday night!I alternated A-Spec and B-Spec every 4 laps. It worked very well. I did 30 laps (exactly) which means I pit about 7 times.
