I had no problem beating Sarthe in the 24hr race but 10 laps into Nurburgring I knew I was in trouble. The track had dried up and the second place car was gaining on me to the point I knew it would eventually overtake me with no real problems.

What cars/setups did some of you guys use to beat that monster of a track?

first i did it in a ferrari p4 race car. won buy 30 seconds.
Then i did it again with 3 other mates without pausing in a X2010.

*cough* Suspend glitch *cough cough*
What? Who said that?

Ive actually never heard of this glitch unless youre talking about when the car autopilots in A spec after resuming a suspended race

I used the GTR R35 TC. I added a high end turbo to generate enough top end speed to be competitive. I really like this car because it is less twitchy then many of the cars which have enough power and speed to be competitive.

Make sure you run on intermediate tires when it rains the rain tires are much slower.

Rain is no problem for me. I was dusting them when it was raining but when the track dried up my lead shrank quickly.

The GTR R35 TC is fast enough to win on a dry track but only by a couple of seconds a lap. You can't afford significant mistakes but that is true of any car you choose. That's why I like this car, it's easier to drive than for example the 908 HDI FAP which I also used on 24hr LeMans.

I do enjoy the GTR so I will def take it out and see how I fare in it

Suspended the race at 4 laps when I had to go in for fuel. So far its still raining which is allowing me to outrun them by a minute and thirty seconds a lap. I def feel like the GTR you suggested is handling better on the track. I think Im comfortable enough to take this car all the way to the end.

I'm part way into the same race with the GTR-R35 too. I'm 5 hours in, so far a completely dry race (I'm preying for rain as I know the GTR's ability to put its power down will rule supreme) but currently running 3rd, about 3 mins 30 down on the leader, an R8 Racecar '01. 2nd is another of the same.

Some stats you might find interesting. In the dry, if driving fairly smoothly but still on lead car pace:-
1. The GTR is consuming 17 litres of fuel per lap
2. On RS tyres, you can only get an outlap and an in lap (2 laps)
3. On RM tyres, you can make 3 laps per pit.
4. Headlights switched on automatically at the 5 hrs milestone. now running in 'twilight' conditions but sun still visible in places
4. The leaders are 'averaging' 8 mins 30s per lap, including their pitstops. THey both seem to be on RS and pitting every 2nd lap.

It therefore follows that in the dry, to 'maintain position', you need to be running 17 mins per set of RS tyres, or 25 mins 30 per set of RM. Anything better will see progress.

Hope this helps. Please share more as the race progresses.

Full on rain when i suspended the race yesterday. Started back up today and it was no longer raining.

Pitted again after two laps to switch to Racing hard tires.

Lapped the bottom two cars while track was less than 30% wet. Lapped three more when the track was completely dry.

Im beating the second lead car by about 8 to 10 seconds a lap, I believe, on a dry track. Currently 7 minutes ahead of second lead car.

Best lap for me so far has been 8:09:539

Tate, are you getting 3 or 4 laps out of a set of RH tyres?

3 laps on RH because Im pushing.

Im 8 1/2 hours in so far. I kept lapping the second place car only to have it get back on the lead lap when I pit but I am getting close to the point where I will lap it then pit without it passing me, when Im in the pits, to get back on the lead lap. Daylight to dusk to nighttime was effing beautiful btw.

11 hours in so far and just had my first wreck. It's still nighttime in the game and I was trying to pass two cars that were right on each others bumpers. When I went to pass I guess I either miscalculated and hit the part of the grass on the left side, or I got tapped when I almost passed them, and my car immediately took a screeching 90 degree right turn, in front of the two cars, straight into the guardrail before rolling 3 times and finally landing upside down before the car reset.

I went to pit and called it a night after that. I think I still have 3 or 4 hours before dawn in the game and I cant wait till it arrives. The last half of that track is whooping my behind.

I finally completed this on Monday evening. I started it with my mate co driving, but he doesn't know Nurburgring so well, and we were losing 30 secs a laps to the leading pair of Audi R8's. Ultimately he handed driving duties over to me completely but by then I was still 3rd, but a lap down on the leaders.

It was a long night and I was only able to make up 5-10 secs per lap (RS, pitting every 2nd lap) but by dawn (again, beautiful transition PD, and great details like seeing smoke rising from the spectator campsite BBQ's at various points around the track) I was really getting my eye in and the track/car came to me. Started putting in some sub 8 minute laps and slowly but surely edged into the lead. As I was doing 2 lap stunts, I never set a proper flying lap, with all recorded laps being either 'outlaps' or 'inlaps', but I did manage one 'inlap' of 7:54 which I was pretty pleased with.

On pitting, you only have 10 seconds from the pit settings window opening, to arriving at the garage, which is a challenge to set the correct fuel level, let alone change tyre type.

Ultimately I won by 30 seconds, which is an insanely tight margin after 24 hrs racing. My GTR was producing only 756bhp at the end, but an oil change and rebuild pushed it back above 800bhp. I'm sure a better setting tune could have made my life easier, but ultimately it's the closeness of the race that makes it fun.

Tate, I'll be interested to know how you go on and any issues you had.

I'm 19 hours in. Unfortunately it started to rain when dawn approached/arrived so that sucked being that I couldnt see the clear sky transition from night to day. Because of the morning rain I was able to pull away from the second lead car far enough so that when I would go and pit it wouldnt pass me to get back on the lead lap. It did stop raining when the track was at 64% wetness but when it got back down to 14% it started to rain again.

I am noticing that my left thumb is cramping/irritating me, I use the d-pad on the ps3 controller, which didnt happen to me when I raced Le Mans. I guessing its because its a lot more grueling.

Made a really dumb mistake that could of been fatal under different circumstances.

It stopped raining, track was at 100% wetness, and the next time I pitted the track dropped down to 64% and the pit menu suggested I take RH tires. In my head I was like "lol, wut?" and ignored the recommendation and put on another set of Intermediates. Three laps later, track at around 20% wetness, 3 minutes after I started the third lap after my last pit I notice I have trouble turning. Turns out my tires are completely gone in regards to traction. My lap time for that lap was about 11 minutes. Second place car gained back a lap on me. I have exactly two hours left and I will still win but damn.

Annnnnd I'm done.

Finished 3 laps ahead of the lead car, Audi R10 TDl, due to it raining pretty much nonstop from dawn till the finish.

Thx RReed43, your suggestion of using the GTR R35 TC served me well.

why did they put Le Mans Race cars as the opponents on the 24 hrs of Nurburgring??? This is supposed to be a sports car cup... Falken GT-R Race car, RX-8 LM race car... etc. I'm waiting to level up enough so I can race this one and I was planning on using my Mazda RX-7 TC. In GT4 I used the RX-8 LM race car against the falken, a toyota Superautobacs, and a few other street and tuner cars. now it's LMP cars? damnit

They really ruin this one, but you can still win with a Touring car or something similar I'm on 17hours with a R35-TC and until 8hours I was almost 3 minute ahead of the Audi and Peugeot 905, because they started last and i won a 40 seconds on the first lap then was winning 3,4 seconds a Lap(I think).
But then started to rain and it was Race over because from that point I'm gaining more than a minute per Lap, and hasn't stopped raining since so now I'm 8 laps on second, and I'm not a good driver on the rain.

ahh crap, this race is gonna SUCK. I don't wanna use some throaty sounding minolta or some other POS for this... and I hate the GTR... damn thing handles like a boat compared to my RX. FGT here I come.
