Nurburgring 4 hours...

ok i was doing the nurburgring 4 hours...i finish lap 27 and start lap 28 with 1:03 left on the time limit and 2nd place and 3rd place is 2 minutes behind me. when the timer expires im still on lap 28 and still in first place. however after the time expires and the 2nd place and 3rd place cross the line im thrown down to 3rd...WTF??? THEY only did 27 laps and im on my 28th?!?!? lucky when i crossed the line to complete my 28th lap i was put back into 1st but what the hell happened before, is that how the game works?
 
Because they where over the finish before you was after the 4 hour time mark though you where in front. That's how time-based races work. If possible, I always stand right before the finish when the timer is about the finish. As soon as the clock hits 00:00, I go over the finish.

so was i better off completing an extra lap or sitting at the line until the time expired?
