Hello all the results are in, thanks to all who took part once again, i hope a fun if perhaps frustrating week was had by all ๐Ÿ‘

Week 1 - Mazda MX-5 1600 NR-A
nrsweekmx53fs.jpg

Well done everyone, again some great times coming in, taking 1st again is Veilsidebr with an almost unbelievable time, Small_Fryz does extremely well for second and myself and geeteye were battling all the way for 3rd ๐Ÿ‘
Onlyme pips Dr Watson and lotus350 for 5th and The Wizard comes in with almost 9 mins flat for 8th.Speedy Samurai and Simracedriver together in the middle for 9th and 10th and the pack after this are all close together with Kolyana, Goixoye, EJR1 and Bigrew taking 11,12,13 and 14th respectively. Not far behind comes Soyfu in 15th and finishing off this week are Ebiggs and Goody04 in 16th and 17th. I think congrats are in order to everyone

17th Goody04 9'18.292

I would like to see replays for times under 9 mins posted for everyone to view please, mine will be attached tomorrow ๐Ÿ‘

Not many people told me with their time what their suspension set up was, so using this thread i would like anyone who wants to add feedback and thoughts for week 1 to do so ๐Ÿ‘ I personally ended up with a 119/119 for ride height, 4/4 for dampers and 2/1 for camber, i found it gave the car a neutral balance which was predictable at least to a certain point, i know geeteye had a similar set up and i think Veils and Small_Fryz was more aggressive, so lets see how set-up affected your times......

thanks again to all, onto week 2 now where the power goes up again, i would strongly recommend watching some replays if you get the time and again anyone who can verify NTSC and has time please step forward to help out ๐Ÿ‘

As this is the first week where points are awarded please see the board below ๐Ÿ‘

cheers all

Dave

Frustrating yet addictive.
I didn't learn anything I didn't know already :
1. I like low powered MR cars
2. I love the N-ring
3. I hate N tyres and the 2-wheels-on-track rule in the same event

It's a pity I couldn't race until friday, perhaps I'd have managed a clean full lap otherwise.
Congrats to anyone who did so. I'm expecting to see some PAL replays.

Congrats to every participant!! Great times ๐Ÿ‘ Especially Veil, our Nurburgring-God  Fantastic time, that is!!

I'm pretty happy with my 5th place. A top-5 spot was what I was hoping for! :)

As for your replay-request, Dave. I'd be happy to put my replay up, but I'm afraid that I haven't got a Max drive or any other device that would enable me to transfer my replay to my pc... I hope that's ok...

I also thought that points would be given with the results, but maybe I'm wrong on that subject. Disregard this question, saw your board now ๐Ÿ‘

Some blazin times there! well done Veil, Fryz and Dave :)
And of course everyone else! Good turn out ๐Ÿ‘

My set up was same as I posted in the race thread
112/112
10/10
1.0/0.0

asm oversteer 7

And I managed to do it on the DFP too!

My replay is in the race thread also, I got a bit impatient :D

Looking forward to week 2

I feel like I could've gone much faster. Maybe it had to do with my settings...

I drove the Miata stock for a few laps, then scrambled the suspension to this:
112/112
4/1
1.5/1.0

I drove it like that and didn't notice much of a handling difference. It was still just as nice to drive as ever. It took me 7 laps to get a clean run and then I sent in my time.

Good job everyone ๐Ÿ‘
And amazing time from "The King of the 'Ring" :scared:

Really, you shouldn't be allowed to partecipate... :D

As for me, I wish my 8'57.xxx would have been clean - I would have gained a couple of spots...

Well, better luck next week, I hope. Those N3 tires look good already :D

The Wizard.

I think maybe your back end was too soft there Soyfu, with the lowest ride height and 1 on the rear dampers i think you must have bottomed out a bit?? Camber seems good and front damper same as me though....

Dave

Great times everyone, this car required alot of patience and nerves to be pushed into limits for a clean lap. :)

very weel done dion and dave, also nice battling between dave and geeteye and also between Lotus and Dr. Watson.

I will be posting my replay soon. ;)

Replay will come soon also ๐Ÿ‘

Congrats to veil for his super human time!!, i could see another 2 seconds or so, but not another 7!

 to dave as well, great time mate!.

๐Ÿ‘ to all participants, it wasnt an easy car to push at the limit. ๐Ÿ‘

I dont know if i learned much this week, if anything i learned how to be even more smoother with DFP. I also learnt the Ring better also.

Week 2 here i come!! :sly:

Without much time to work on this this week I ended up with settings like this:

116/114
10/2
2.5/2.0

I know I could have knocked off a few more seconds, but it was not to be. Congratulations everyone!

NTSC Replay attached.

Veilside... I promise I'll try and give you a run in later weeks. ;)
until then, nice win.
and big hand to everyone that kept it on track. ๐Ÿ‘

if you wanted my settings IIRC i was using:
115/115
8/4
2.5 1.5

Great results everyone ๐Ÿ‘

Looks like I'm the only one to miss submitting my time, apologies for my tardiness.
Spent the weekend Offroading/4WDriving with a group of friends thru the Ngarkat
( pronounced NARCAT ) National Park. Had a great time driving thru clay pans and steep sand dunes in my trusty old toyota 4Runner, only needed to be snatched out of a couple of fairly deep mud bogs and in turn rescue other friends who managed to get bogged here and there during the trip. It took us the best part of a day and a half to
travel about 120km with an overnight stay on saturday night under the stars around
the campfire, it was great to get out of the city if only for two days and enjoy the
space of the great outdoors.

Again apologies for missing the submission time, only managed to go 2 and a bit sec
faster than my time on the leader board so I wouldn't have threatened any front
runners or just about anyone else for that matter :dopey:.

Steve

I'm not that surprised at my finish this race! But damn..! Mad props go out to Veilsidebr and his 8'43.969 what on gods green earth are you doing to that poor Miata! :D

Hopefully as the cars "HP" goes up, I can ease my way up that leaderboard! hehehehe!

Nice driving everyone!

SRD:

Hi all here is my PAL replay for anyone interested to view/verify.

Again anyone with NTSC please step forward to verify any that you can, those of you lucky enough to view Veilsides learn what you can

I will be doing a bit of set-up analysing tomorrow am so will post some feedback and what i see from your settings etc, keep your eyes out if your interested ๐Ÿ‘

cheers

Okay so ive sat down and collated as much info on the settings everyone used as i can and tried to look at what worked and what didnt. I would like to make the point that im no expert on suspension set-ups and as such everything written here are just my observations on week 1.

We had a small FR layout car with relatively low power and a tendancy "out of the box" to oversteer. I initially set the car up with a low ride height of 116/116 (not as low as it could go), i set dampers to 4/4 and camber to 2/2 i felt that it gave a neutral balance which favours the Nurburgring, the cars that excel here are ones that handle well, a set up which works at the start of the lap may not work at the end, so for me consistency all around the lap is key as there are so many different corners to consider.

I ended up raising the car a touch more and reducing rear camber to 1 which helped the rear end keep grip when changing direction and am please with the time i managed. geeteye's settings were very similar and we got very close laptimes all week he ran 117/117 3/3 and 3/1.5 so more extreme on the camber and a bit softer damping.

Overall everyone seemed to come to similar conclusions :

To get rid of unwanted oversteer lower the back more than the front and Set front dampers harder than rear.
However.....
7 of us went for ride heights equal front and rear.
5 of us had equal damping rates
Everone had rear camber less than the front

The winning set up was very stiff and low, 2nd place was low rear and stiff front end and 3rd and 4 th were neutral "even" set ups with a balance of settings front/rear.

There seemed to be a mix after this but most folk seemed to keep ride heights level and dampers stiffer at the front.

I think as its week 1 then knowledge of the ring has played a big part and skill of car control also, a more extreme set up that Veilsidebr and Small_Fryz used seemed to work but only if you have the skills to exploit the best from the car, for most a slightly more sedate set up seemed to work with good laps being posted all round i feel.

Onto week 2 we have a car which seems to be biased towards understeer so lets see what settings work for this machine, over the weeks im trying to build up a picture of whether everyone is learning anything about set ups and hopefully find a format which works for most cars so we can move onto the semi-race and race set-ups knowing what we are doing ๐Ÿ‘

thanks for your time and feel free to add to this feedback section if you have anything to share, thanks again to everyone taking part in the NRS.

cheers all

Dave

No MX-5?

bugger, will have to find it! and upload :p

Sorry :p

Edit,

That M3 lap was no slow one though :p, If its the one i think it is, it was only a 2 - 3 seconds off my limit i think.

That link is still the same even though its now the MX-5, try again ๐Ÿ‘

Here is that M3, reuploaded with a different URL, if anybody is curious :sly:

Slightly Tuned M3

BTW the M3 is also @ nurb ๐Ÿ‘

Dave, thanks for looking at the settings and compiling those notes. I didn't submit my settings with my time, but they're the same ones you saw in my public post. I'll be sure to put those in my PM for Week 2.

I have two questions:

1. The range of control on the ride height is only about 25mm. Do you really think a change that small has a significant impact on lap times?

2. What would be the effect of raising the front and lowering the rear?

Hi Soyfu no problem, i wanted to see if we could get to grips with sports suspension as when we move upto semi race we will already be halfway there.

As i said im no expert on set up and as such my comments must be taken as observations, im not in the business of giving bad advice ๐Ÿ‘Ž

For ride height a couple of mm had a noticeable difference in handling of the car but as for affecting lap times im not sure, 25mm is nearly an inch and in the "real world" of tuning most kits lower a car by an inch and would help tighten things up for light circuit use so yes i think it would possibly have an effect for lap times...... :)

Regarding the ride height of the car, being higher at the front and lower at the rear would reduce oversteer, if you think of an FF hot hatch, they are usually lower at the front slightly as they generally suffer with understeer, lifting the back makes the back end a bit more mobile and car tuners can tune in oversteer....

With the Mazda suffering from oversteer in stock settings dropping the rear seems to give it a bit more rear end grip and reduces the tendancy to oversteer..

if anyone else has better information on Soyfu's questions please feel free to add and or correct me if im wrong!

hope that sort of answers your points anyway ๐Ÿ‘

Dave

Here is my replay so far for further verification. ;)

yikes... watched your replay before classes today. nicely done.
and thank you for not making it look easy :p
you did do a skillful job of keeping the skates on the ice. ๐Ÿ‘

question though; i notice you keep your right foot planted almost the entire lap, braking with your left with the throttle still wide open. only really lifting when you need to break seriously hard.
that some sort of karting habit? or does it help stablize the car somewhat?

Congrats to everyone that finished that one in one piece, especially to the podium places.

@Dave: That was real close, looking forward to the MR2 this week. Perhaps the tables will be turned. ๐Ÿ‘ :scared:

Here is my replay if anyone is interested.

yes, both. Altough i use this well before i started karting, but i used that for karting also. :)

Checked your replay Small_Fryz nice and clean ๐Ÿ‘ Came close to being off track ay the flugplatz tho....similar to me but mine was on the uphill back section going round the left hander....

I noticed how smooth your drive was, i tried your settings and found i was all over the place, shows how everyones styles are different which also means a standard type of setting wont work for everyone. I wish i had space for a DFP as they reallty seem to make a difference with throttle and braking inputs.

Nice lap there geeteye and also Lotus 350, both looked ok to me ๐Ÿ‘
