What a fantastic week! I found the Skyline such a breath of fresh air last week after we had tackled some difficult machinary the GTR just showed us exactly why IRL its such a highly regarded car with great balance, grip, handling, power, sound....its got it all and i want one!!

Well done everyone, as usual feel free to discuss this week and ask any questions, the posting of replays is encouraged, mine should be up tomorrow.

This was our last but one week with sports suspension and S1 tyres, i hope that something has been learned by all regarding set ups?? let me know what you think of the series so far as all feedback is welcome (thats bad included!!)

cheers all looking forward to week 6 and the monster truck......

Dave

I don't think that I've ever been so close to Speedy Samurai and OnlyMe, so I'm fairly happy with that result 👍

Congrats to all you guys that are 10 seconds ahead ... UNBELIEVABLE how you do it ... I'm continually flabberghasted!!!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing some replays, particularly those who are only marginally faster than me, and I'll probably use them as a ghost for a couple of runs to see if i can find one or two slow corners.

Perhaps, if I post my own run, someone could also tell me where I could go faster?

I will see about posting my replay for you, Koly. I play the NTSC-Korean version so I hope it is viewable to others. I will try to have it up later this afternoon.

Congrats to Dr Watson for the win, that's a nice effort. 👍

And to everyone who submitted. It was pleasing to see some people trying my setup, sorry if it didn't work for you.

Can't wait for the monster truck week. :)

Here's my (PAL) replay:

Oh my! 3 tenths.
thats quite a slim margin for the ring... lots of tight battles in the middle this week too. Looks like things are going to be bumper to bumper for the remainder of this series. :scared:

Nice run VTR and big 👍 to everyone that keeps ripping up the green hell... that evil mistress she is.

NTSC US Replay attached as usual.

That was a great week of racing everyone, I really enjoyed it, such close times on
a track like this is a buzz :).

Awesome times there Doc, VT & Dave

I have finally unwrapped my Max drive for this occasion ( after finally working out how to use the thing  ) and have downloaded VT ' s replay, wow very nice lap dude 👍. Makes mine look rather tame in comparison, but i will post my replay here anyway. ( hints, tips, welcomed ) :sly:

Again  All

Thanks Steve 👍

I watched your lap this morning and must say looked very good, however if you might permit me to offer some advice?

The overall line through the course was very good, but just a few corners where you were turning in too early which resulted in you scrubbing a bit too much speed and compromising your exit speed, an example of this would be at Kallenhard (see link to map in my sig) which needs a slightly later turn in....

If anything i would say try and be a bit more aggressive with the car as you were very smooth but maybe a bit cautious? Try using the full powerband as there was a couple of places where the car was labouring slightly in 5th/6th gear....nothing much though and my lap had similar errors....

Try second gear through the Karussell which should give you a bit better slingshot out the other side

Try to generally spend less time "Off throttle" and use the throttle to adjust the cars attitude in each corner, i find that sometimes being off throttle can cause problems when being on say half throttle would be a better bet.

Overall looked really good and i think that if you really pushed the car and attacked a bit more then the time would have been much lower but the basics are there for sure, good lap Steve 👍

cheers

Hi Dave

Thanks for taking the time to offer your encouragement & advice, It's most welcome :) , and nice to know I'm not doing it "all" wrong :sly: .
I have noted your tips and will try to put them into practice this week and hopefully
make a little improvement to my overall time.

Cheers Mate

Steve

I've found a lot of the time you [me, Steve, whoever else is slower than the almighty gods :p] can typically drive the right line, or close to it, and often even brake in all the right places ... but we're not as aggressive, or, more accurately, we can't seem to carry the right amount of aggression into a corner and get away with it.

The net result is slower per corner and slower out ... it doesn't take much ... and before you know it we're just plain BEHIND :p

I watched Curtis (hOt604BOi) take several corners on the ring flat out, not even feathering the throttle, in all the places where I'd normally dab the brakes ... his precision was stunning ... and yet no matter what I did, I couldn't emulate it or even get close ... I *always* came off on the same corners.

That's why I'm hoping to chase SpeedySamurai ... just a little ahead of me, so hopefully I'll *slowly* learn to be a touch faster in a couple of places ... and then :fingers crossed: ... chase another faster ghost a race later and so on.

Not sure what I'm saying ehre ... but ... um ... yeah ... *cough* ...

Cheers Steve no problem mate, thats what its all about sharing tips and improving week by week....

I would reccomend strongly that you take the GTR out for a few laps to see if you can improve, anything you achieve will pass down onto this weeks truck time but with the GTR you have a reference to beat from the start.....

Worth noting im by no means an expert and consistently a few seconds off the quick guys each week, i know my poor area is Start to T2 and i am struggling to find time there every week so far, anyone got any tips for me on this area?

Just to add to what Nat said, i thought i was quick until i started OLR 3 months ago and quickly discovered i was quite mediocre, its in the braking that i have improved, i always outbraked myself and lost time in corners....now im constantly trying to keep on the limit whilst keeping the concentration to get lines and braking points correct, its difficult especially on the ring with so many corners, but rewarding to see yourself improving 👍

Theoretically, when the season is over we should all be able to go back to Week 1 (or any week) and best our previous time without too much trouble. It'll be fun to see the real, measurable difference.

Yes totally, that would be great to see if everyone improves on their previous times 👍

from what i've found, T2 times are based on two things.
high exit speed through flugplatz and braking very deep into aremberg.
for the former, its more beneficial to slow down a bit before turn-in so you can accelerate through flugplatz and out onto the straight. going through at the highest speed the car can *hold* means you're not gaining any speed by the exit, merely maintaining what you had on entry. (i noticed the skyline could hold the turn at ~119-120, but entering at ~115 would be able to accelerate to ~130 by the exit and carry the extra 5mph or so onto the straight) The extra speed on exit gets compounded over the straight and can add up to a net of ~.5 @ t2.
For aremberg, i've tried many many lines... the fastest seems to be mashing the brake about a car lenght after the red graffiti on the road, and riding the brake on turn-in, accross the road and into the corner. This stretches the braking zone, and opens the corner a bit, so you can get immediately on the thottle and power out onto the downhill.
But all things considered... T2 times are for the most part, a product of your T1 + flugplatz.
usually after i get used to the car i can guess my T2 time within .2 as soon as i see the T1 time and exit flugplatz.

Cheers Dr! Im usually about .5 down at T1 and know that getting the first corner right and being smooth throught the rest of T1 can gain that back, however i thought i was fairly good through Flugplatz, Watched VT racings replay today and he got virtually sideways through there and still got me by 1 second at T2!! So yes i will try your tips, im already a lot more carefull into flugplatz so maybe aremberg is my achilles heel at the moment..... :indiff:

Luckily for me i seem to gain back in T4 onwards what im behind but its def my area for working on 👍

That sideways thing through Flugplatz is my way of doing what Dr Watson is talking about (not to mention it being a lot of fun ;) ). I would generally brake a bit early and throw the car at the corner at the same time. If I got it right, then the car would be pointing at the exit very soon after the first apex and be picking up speed from that moment.

I suppose that style is what comes from being a rallying fan.

Hi Nat lol , I'm pretty sure I know what you mean :sly: , seeing it done is one thing, trying to do it is something else. But we must press on trying to eek out those little improvements here and there, and try to slowly build up to those faster times. 👍 ( not that I will ever do the times that Curtis manages to rack up )
All sounds good in theory just hard to teach the old dog (me) a few new tricks, " Woof ".
