All this crap about how close GT4 will be to looking real is getting old. The only thing more annoying then seeing the debate pop up over and over again are the kids who throw out video hardware and software buzzwords like they know what they are talking about, or the stuff that people just make up.

fact: It'll look great

fact: the resolution on your TV sucks, and you are used to it, and thats one of the reasons that it'll look great.

fact: No image taken from a PS2, no matter what size, is going to look the same on your computer as it will on your TV.

new screenshots are exciting eye candy, so keep them coming. We'll be able to peck away at our keyboards with glee and talk about the changes in effects like tire smoke/dirt, attention to detail, etc. But for the love of all that is holy, arguing about if its in photo mode, or doctored, or photoshopped, or if the resolution its in on your computer screen ruely represents how it will look on your TV is about as useful as arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

readers digest: If you argue about the resolution & crispness of screenshots then you are the biggest tool in this big shed of tools.

And I though this was a message board where you can express your opinions...

you will find that all other opinions that have been beaten to death have recieved similar feedback at some point.

the point is: Your looking at PS2 stills on a computer screen. opinions on the particle effects, shading, smoke, etc - bring `em all! Thats fine!

but picking appart the crispness, resolution, etc - no point.

Sorry dude. I agree with you, but this is a crap thread that needs to be closed.

I have to say I agree with you Greyout. It's just like seeing stills from any computer game. They will always look better than the final game, in motion whether it be on a TV or monitor. TBH, we do seem to be running very short on good things to talk about on GT4. We've talked about which cars, which tracks, what new effects, will Ferrari and Porsche both be in or not and my personal favourite, will online be any good.

No one knows any of the answers to any of these questions, but we don't have anything else to talk about, until some new info is release......................but look on the bright side. At least we not out there doing drugs ;)

Let the debate rage on :)

Cheers

How do you know were not "in here" doing drugs? ;)

I think there is still a long way to go with visuals on a standard TV. i mean.. theres more to the realism of an image than the sharpness! we know we can watch F1 on a tv, and we know that looks real (well it is.. duhhh), so obviously getting the same level of realism must be possible with a game on a TV.. one day.... proly all on HDTV by the time that happens but thats beside the point

Hi everybody (waits for CobraGT to show up). Lol.

I actually find the inane arguments over graphics here quite entertaining (and have been known to participate in some just for sport).

In all seriousness, why do people get so amped up about things like this? It's just a stupid message board! If you don't like the topic of conversation, just don't read it. There are a million other topics for you to browse through, so stop acting like it's the end of the friggin' world when someone posts a thread you think is stupid.

I'm wondering if I'm going to get grouped in the "kids using buzzwords pretending they know what they're talking about" next time I mention occlusion culling or something similar...

Anyway, go nuts, clear your chests and we'll just get on with it like always. I just hope you didn't expect something to change.

"If you build it, they will come," I once heard. I'm sure when OutRun was debutting in arcade stores, racing afficionados were saying that it's pretty cinematic and real. But that was technology back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This was past the time of Pole Position (that I was playing on my PS2 until I messed up my entire run on the second lap. Hard Drivin' proved to be a sort of 3D classic. Then along came Ridge Racer in 1993. Then Daytona USA comes along. The Crusin' series debuts in the mid-late 1990s and provides wonderful graphics for the time. Sega's Super GT/SCUD Race stirs the racing pot with beautiful graphics and the Porsche 911, Ferrari F40, DOdge Viper GTS-R, and the almighty McLaren F1 that all raced in the late BPR series. Gran Turismo comes in 1997. Sega's response was the semi-successful Sega GT. Project Gotham comes along after Le Mans 24 Hours provided a wonderful day-to-night-to-day sequence. And all other racers come out...

...and then we come to Gran Turismo 4. The point of all of this is that racing games have come a long way in physics, control, gameplay, and even sound effects and music. The point of this thread is about the graphics. I don't know if my fellow Texan Greyout is talking to the "noobs (in which I assume means "newbie")," or to GTP in general, myself included. But we all have our ways of expressing ourselves. Whether it is () or (), we sometimes utter the same thing- realistic graphics. I mean, it's like some female friends of mine. Sometimes I have a tendency to talk about how beautiful they are, and I tend to say it over and over again within days and weeks. I mean, you can't escape it. As it relates to talking about realistic GT4 graphics, same story. You can get sick of it, but it's there.
