Someone else's post about soft tires (or, if you like tyres), got me to thinking.

People start rooms all the time where they turn off all assists (except generally ABS). Why? A modern race car, like F1, Le Mans, etc, all use these assists, or the car would be completely undriveable. If someone wants to use ASM, go ahead, but you won't be competetive. As for the rooms where ABS is NOT allowed...you show me a race car, besides NASCAR, that doesn't have ABS today. Also, MOST of us are using a controller to play the game. There's no "pedal feel" with a controller. In real life you know when your brakes are locking up, usually before it's too late. Not with the controller though.

And then there are cars like the Murcielagos and Gallardos. I can't speak to the Murc, but I can tell you, the Gallardo is a much more forgiving car in real life than in the game. One wrong move and that thing will bite you...HARD. The cure? Racing Softs.

Next thing: Show me a car, done up for racing, like say an S2000 or Nissan GTR with ADJUSTABLE anti-roll bars! (or toe, for that matter). I know it's a very important component in the suspension set up for a car, but to able to adjust it on the fly?? LOL. Spring rates, damper settings, camber, yup, those are realistic adjustments. But roll bars??

Then there's the whole PP thing...don't get me started on that. 2 cars , with a PP of say 500, on the 'Ring, one weighs 800kg, the other 1200kg, the 800 kg car has let's say 220hp, the 1200kg one has 350hp. Which will be faster? Duh. Gimme a break.

Then there's photo mode. Having to set the camera to 16:9 EVERY time is a pain! That should be a default setting, not 3:2. Such a simple oversight.

And the load times. They can be a bit on the long side, like waiting to get to GT Auto. Shouldn't that just pop up instantly? Not 10 seconds? So frustrating when you hit GT Auto instead of Tune Shop by accident. I know it's only 20 seconds, but when you're staring at the GT logo, it's a loooong 20 seconds. (to go in and then get out)

And why aren't all wheels available for all cars? Gimme a break.

This is my morning rant...feel free to comment or flame me all you want. Or, post some of your own observations.

No. Modern F1 cars don't have ABS or TCS. This is because the FIA wants the driver to be driving the car, not the car's electronics.
It's the same with people online I guess - To see who's the best driver at the highest difficulty.

Just dashing off out so only a quick one for me, you're right about the stupid long loading times on GT Auto.

Whenever I play GT5, I'm on here with my laptop beacause it gives me something to do while I'm waiting for it to load.

I hope the next generation consoles are better than this.......

Also when you buy a new cars you have to sit through the footage of it turning its headlights on and moving forwards, I mean if you could get a proper look at the car it wouldn't be so bad. What use is a silliy bonet view?

No argument on any of these points from me. On the subject of wheels, you ought to be able to specify rim size as well - this appears to be no problem in NFS:Shift.

As for loading times, apparently PS3 has only 256mb of ram (+256mb of video). What were they thinking. This probably explains why you can't go back to your garage once a track has loaded. (imagine being able to pick a track, test a car, fit some upgrades, swap the car out, try some more upgrades or settings, all without having to reload the track every time.)

I usually keep my trap shut when passing through these threads, but this:

What are you on about here?

@What_Apex? He's on about the photomode options.

That's because 16:9 is widescreen, and widescreen isn't the default aspect ratio on anything. But then again, 4:3 is the most common one, not 3:2...

Sorry, I was maybe a bit sarcastic, which doesn't allways do well at the internet... :)
My observation is, that pictures from GT5 comes in alot of different sizes.

IMO the best settings for a fun room would be SRF off, racing line, TCS on. Sport tires for sports cars and racing tires for racing cars.

Racing line and TCS don't give people an advantage over better drivers, they just help controller users and people who haven't memorized the tracks stay in the race a bit longer and makes the room a bit more accessible and fun to more people.

Modern f1 cars dont have TC or ABS, as skyline stated above the FIA want the drivers to drive the cars and not to get aid from the electronics.

They banned TCS at the start of the 2008 season from what i can remember.

thanks:)

What are you talking about here? I don't know of a racing series that allows the use of ABS.

Some of my observations:
1. ALL the racing sets of tires have the same deterioration speed. I.E the softs deteriorate as quickly as the hards, the only difference is grip and price.
2. There are so many boring, similar cars. Do I want 30 odd different MX-5's? no. Some more unusual or different cars? yes. take them from GT4 for all I care. Thats what they've done for most standard cars.
3. Stupid B-Spec drivers. These guys no nothing about overtaking, drafting, late braking etc etc. It's ridiculous.
4. Tickets- Once you get one your more likely to get a car you already have instead of something new. That was useful.

I'm thinking you might want to shut down the console for a few days.

As far as adjustable roll bars:

They are able to raise and lower it by simply turning a ratchet. This has the same effect as adding or removing stiffness. So, that's not entirely unrealistic.

Also, have you ever driven a Gallardo at 100% around a circuit? I highly doubt it. And until you do, I don't see how you can comment that the GT5 version is more unstable.

I agree with most of what you said except the adjustable sway-bars. I see them all the time with three or four different mounting points or adjustable end-links which slide to provide more leverage creating a "softer" bar while utilizing the same bar.
