Obutto R3volution overkill for me?

I play GT5 and will plat GT6 heavily. I don't see myself doing iracing or computer racing. I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking to console only so I was wondering if you all think the r3volution will be overkill or should I stick to my 37" tv with a cheaper wheel stand/ chair combo.

Absolutely not. I have no idea why people think if you have a nice rig it is mandatory to play PC sim racers on it only. If you have a cheap rig then it is okay for GT, console, or arcade racers. Or they will probably say it is not worth it at all. Go for it and enjoy it and let the haters hate. I would love to get a very nice rig one day (I have a rig already) to play all my console racers and non force feedback wheels.

Thanks. Also i forget to mention i have the G27 wheel and pedals already. Just missing a seat/ cockpit so that's why i'm wondering if i should go for the cheap obutto seat or bust out for the triple screen one.

I use the Obutto Ozone for primarily console racing and I am very happy with it, It is more compact and self contained than previous set ups I have had, and is extremely multi-purpose I watch movies/tv in it and love the keyboard table for drinks, controllers etc.

Hope this helps ;)

Nothing can replace a cockpit. I'd rather have a nice cockpit and a lesser wheel compared to a nice wheel clamped on a wheel stand or table. You have a G27 and no cockpit? Build a foundation and get a nice cockpit, wheels can be changed or upgraded later. I don't have the best but I am loving it, can't image with a better setup. It just makes ALL racing games that much better. If you have the passion and love for racing games, you would wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Yes I have a g27 mounted on a home made wooden plank table thing.. but for gt6 I want to be official haga. I love the g27. Maybe a bigger steering wheel but I like it. I'm thinking obutto ozone or revolution.. I'm thinking ozone and use mo ey saved from revolution towards some buttkickers and 3 monitors.. or save up more for the revolution. I was just worried that it would be overkill and too much money spent for just gt5 and 6.

The r3v might be overkill for a single screen GT setup with a G27, but I bet the oZone would suit your needs just right. Still, the r3v is pretty sweet.

U think its overkill because of the g27? Or overkill if I keep it single screen? Do I need a better wheel or just a bigger one (momo wheel swap). What about triple screen revolution with g27? Does the ozone compliment the g27 better?

I do agree that it's a little bit overkill for your purposes. The oZone would be a great bang for your buck in this scenario, however if you have the money and want to spend it go ahead, no one here will judge you -- we all love our hobby and spend more money on it than we should! :)

It's all about how much you race no matter if it's console or PC.
If you spend a lot of time on Gt5 since it came out and still playing it then it's not overkill.
-Revolution is an upgraded version of Ozone. Ozone is a tank and I'm very happy with mine but it could use a few more adjustments. Buying Revolution over the Ozone is a tough call. (I did buy the better keyboard mount)
- Triple screen is more ideal and cheaper for PC than console. How much do you love playing Gt5 to buy three consoles and monitors? In racing I love triple screen as it gives me better scene of speed and my surroundings. As much as I love triple screen I don't think triple screen is worth it just for one game.
- G27 is a good wheel especially for console. PC titles like Iracing often have better ffb where a expensive wheel like T500RS will shine more over G27. FFB is only as good as the software. Gt5 is IMO just average.

- Between triple screen Obutto vs single screen Revolution even for Gt5/6 I would clearly choose triple screen. Three 21-24" triple monitors (Obutto) is better than one large HDTV.

My advice is don't spend a lot of money on displays this year. First or second quarter of 2014 we might start seeing the first head mounted displays come onto the consumer market that could be a great cost effective solution to buying 3 flat panel tvs, with a much better immersive experience as well. I would say if you want to save money, spend it all on the best wheel, pedal, shifter and computer you can afford, and then look through the DIY cockpit section. You can build your own cockpit any way you want with very simple instructions and cheap materials. I have owned a $500 Fanatec wheel and had it mounted to a rig I built out of 2x4 lumber for less than $100 and had an absolute blast! DIY is the way to go for cockpits IMHO

In summary:
Oculus Rift $300, DIY Cockpit $100 =$400
or...
Obutto R3voltion $800, 24"-40" single flat panel monitor $200 = $1000-$1400 (for triple monitor)

Thanks for the replies guys. Like i said, i currently have a wooden wheel base. I think i'll just try and improve it a little bit until i decide what to do. The thing is that if i go with a cockpit it will replace my lazy boy and tv stand. Right now when i use my wooden base i just move the lazy boy out the way and bring in my wooden wheel stand and use a regular chair. So if i spend money on a cockpit it has to be worth replacing my lazy boy. Also, I didnt know I needed 3 ps3's to run a triple monitor setup as zoom!zoom! mentioned. I'm thinking once I build my garage/man cave i'll get the R3volution which will hopefully be next summer.

Well then, mentioning about money and budgets changes everything. I first assumed a lot of money was thrown around without much concern since a rig was mentioned with that kind of price tag. Now it is probably overkill. Certain types of people wants to go all out on everything. Then after going all out spends little time using it and it collects dust. Something like buying gym equipment =P But if your mentality is about playing only one or two racers then a cheaper rig or a DIY would probably be a better option. IF you are so obsessed with GT and knowing you will be playing it for years and years and enjoying every single minute, why not then. You only live once. That is another way of looking at it =P

If I had the space I would do 3 screens. One for cable TV, one for console, and one for PC. Then attach joysticks, fight sticks, etc...when you aren't racing. There can be other purposes too besides doing only one thing. Just an example of things that can be done with it besides limiting yourself to just one game or one genre. I came very close to buying an Obutto many times because that is the best overall non strictly for racing cockpit I have seen. The price is pretty good too. Other than that it would have to be custom. Could be costly and for sure time consuming to get it perfect.

I see what youre saying. As far as budget.. I could afford it, but its still a lot of money. I dont game on pc but i do game a lot. However, I game a lot on only a few games. I heavily play GT, Fifa, and COD but im pretty sure i'll be switching to battlefield this time around. I'm really enjoying the g27 i was just not liking how ghetto my wooden stand looked but it works i guess. Thanks for your view.

Yeah a bit. The G27 is a great wheel and the oZone is basically built for it. I wouldn't upgrade if you're happy with it... I only went from G27 to a T500 because I lucked into a great deal (basically a T500 for half price "brand new") and was like, ehh, why not?

With the oZone you spend half as much for basically the same performance... same seat, plus it includes sliders, keyboard tray and shifter mount, ect.

As for triple screens, they're awesome, but not really realistic on PS3. If you ever go to PC games tho, worth doing for sure. That's the biggest oZone vs. r3v difference IMO, the oZone has the single monitor stand attached to the rig, while the r3v comes with a separate stand. If you do triples, the separate stand is nice and gives you a pretty fair amount of monitor options (I think up to 32 inches once you buy the triples kit). The oZones single mount is nice for one largish screen, but for triples (with again, an extra kit sold separate) it's a little far away since you need to use smaller screens (24 inches.)

Anyways, hope that helps. I personally have a oZone (g1 style, the new ones are more adjustable) with a T500RS, TH8 shifter and a homebuilt triples stand with 32's and I love it, although my plan is to someday get a r3volution and the triples stand for it, just because it looks cool and fits the T500 a bit better. At that point I'll probably just reporpose the oZone as a single screen console rig if I don't find it a cool new home.

No matter which one you go with, you'll be happy. They're both very robust and great value for money. Good luck!

Thanks. Looks like for now triple screen is not the thing for me until I get into iracing. For gt5 and 6 I think ill concentrate on a better wheel stand. I've decided the r3volution is awesome but a bit overkill for me right now. If I ever get my mancave setup right tho I'm sure I.ll have a triple screen setup to with it. Thanks for all the help guys. For now I.ll keep enjoying my g27 and 37" 1080 and look at making my homemade rig a little better. This will also allow me to keep saving money until I'm 100% sure I'm ready to upgrade everything.

Can't you use the r3volution 3 monitor stand with the Ozone? I highly suspect that the Oculus Rift is going to make triple screens obsolete when the commercial version is released next year.

I don't know. It has be very comfortable for me to race hours at a time. This is the very reason I haven't went to 3D. I don't like wearing glasses and earphones.

I personally like monitors or hd tvs better. I enjoy letting the game menu run just letting the eye candy do its thing while I'm not playing. Plus if my brothers or friends come to play I don't see us watching each other with that thing on our heads.

3D on the rift is completely different from 3D monitors or movies. I have both triple screens and a rift and I will most likely be switching over to the rift when the commercial version arrives.

mykflo - If you find your Lazy Boy chair comfortable why not get a wheelstand pro for your wheel. You could adjust it to a height and angle to suit that chair.

I have my T500 on a wheelstand pro and find it great for GT5 plus I can move it easily if needed.

So true.
