I have a home theater setup which I also use for PS3 and 360 gaming. I have 3D setup for both on a 73" 1080P TV, and 7.1 surround on a highend system that is a big hobby for me. So...I need a cockpit which I can stow away because we use that room as our main Family Room and my wife might kill me if I got something that was too big to stow while not in use.

I have a Playseat Evo but was thinking about getting a Obutto to play around with. How do they compare?

I just bought and assembled the Obutto. I saw a Playseat on Craigslist in my area, but after looking on here, I felt the Obutto suited me better: no center bar, much better seat, adjustable seat and comes with shift mount(both of which cost extra with Playseat), also a keyboard tray and monitor mount(both of which I don't need, but have if I change my setup in the future like moving to another room).

As far as modifying to quick turn screws, I wouldn't bother. There are only (4) screws/nuts attaching the seat portion of the frame to the wheel/pedals portion of the frame. The lower (2) fasteners are right at the floor level which wouldn't allow for a big knob. Just have a dedicated allen key and socket and you can split the unit into 2 pieces in 3-5 minutes. Very easy.

The advantage I see to the Playseat vs Obutto is shipping cost. You can get the Playseat on Amazon or maybe other sites with free shipping. The Obutto charges $110 shipping to I think anywhere. I just happen to live in the Seattle area, which is where they ship from, so I was able to pick mine up at will-call(which they still charge $25 to do so) and I also got dinged with sales tax.

I also ordered a wheelstandpro which will be here on Tuesday, but I decided I wanted a cockpit more and found a way to arrange my room to have one. So, I will be refusing shipment and paying a restocking fee. If you are wanting a quick storable solution, this might be better from a wifes point of view! I don't have to deal with that.

I have not owned an obutto, so can't comment on one of those. But as people say, its a matter of space, or the center bar.

The playseat has the center bar. So that can get in the way, but not much. and the playseat can also fold up so its not taking up as much space, but it still takes some.

The obutto looks very nice. I think you will be happy either way.

I have a playseat, and g27, and they are awesome together. Honestly, for me, the center bar is not a big deal. Only a real pain when getting in and out of the rig. But then again, i'm not a hardcore sim racer. Im just getting started.

I really haven't tried the Obutto (even though I have wanted to, but I still haven't gotten a chance to review that one yet!) however the Playseat is the official #1 selling racing video game chair. That has to count for something. Though I wish they had sound and vibration and I just saw a prototype awhile ago with no real release ETA!

The PlaySeat is an ankle killer because of the non-adjustable pedal plate. The Playseat's back folds down, which is it's best feature. But it does not make it disappear into a closet, behind the couch, or under a bed. It's not like a wheel stand. I made a platform for my PlaySeat to move it around. My Son has the Tony Stewart PlaySeat now. It sits next to a wall when not in use in his apartment living room.

I also made a platform for my Obutto. It sits against the back wall of my Man Cave when not in use. The seat is much more comfortable on the Obutto, it does recline. It comes with extras for no extra price, unlike the PlaySeat. You may not think you'll use the keyboard try, but you will. For remotes, DS3, phone, cat, or as your food holder ;). Yep, when i eat I just (quoting David Lee Roth) "reach down between my legs and ease the seat back", swing the tray all the way in and eat. If you want to ease the seat back on a PlaySeat, it's gonna cost you! That option isn't included.

Search for the Obutto thread and take a look at the platforms I built. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=101002

I am VERY happy with the Obutto. I was as hard headed as a liberal about the PlaySeat, until I owned an Obutto. Easily best value for your buck cockpit on the market.
