Why did PD choose to position the thumbs of Bob at such an awkward stance?

It is especially distracting when turning and for me takes away a bit from the speed and high-tech feel.

Where the hands motion captured and no one bothered to say the actor to properly hold the wheel?

Weird decision...

There are some weird hand positions throughout the game. Its the same with the Ferrari F1 cars. I also noticed during a championship race the other night the when Bob is changing gear in the ACR, he's only holding the gear shifter between his small finger and his thumb making the other 3 fingers look awkward.

PD: Great with cars, not so great with human modelling...

I could be wrong here but I am sure I read an article about race drivers being trained to avoid putting their thumbs through a wheel. I'm guessing it's to avoid being injured in a crash or when leaving the road. The placement of Bob's thumbs does look odd though.

I think its more to do with the hands modelled to fit a larger road car wheel and not being adjusted to fit the red bull properly.

I know from the way I personally drive in real life, I never put my thumbs through the wheel. I do this because if the airbag goes off in the result of an accident, at least my hands stay intact.

OP, there are some strange hand positions in the game, I just learned to ignore them. I am too busy looking out the windshield...:sly:

I wonder if this changes when the B-SPEC drivers get their experience all the way up as they learn the proper way to race... Just like their capabilities improve after they race so many races

I believe that with over 1000 different cars, they only had the time to animate one set of hands for all the cars. It used to bother me at first, but now I just ignore it :sly:

I'd say its an animation issue I reckon, If the thumb is is on the steering wheel wouldn't it involve a lot more movements to have the hand reach down for the next gear! You know oppose able thumbs and everything? My guess anyway?

It's the exact same position for all cars with paddle shifters and it looks horrible, I'm surprised they haven't noticed it/fixed it yet.

Its so fast he's just holding on for dear life.

Yeah I usually go a bit further and dont use my hands at all :dunce::rolleyes:

Thats just how you should do it on high downforce open wheelers :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Now seriously IRL you wouldnt be able to do the first turn

Ok yes I see your point. Haha. Driving with thumbs like that at that speed would be foolish. I don't make the O shape with my thumb and index fingers around the wheel. I rest my thumbs on the wheel and my fingers are I the back. I am a lot of people are like this.

They are trained to take their hands off the wheel if they know they are going to crash but dont know about this.
