My computer is nearing it's demise as I'm definetly planning to getting a new computer but I can't get it immediately so for now I have to deal with this... for lack of a better word, piece of crap. Now simple programs like firefox error when I try to open them and definetly games wont start and at least for the games I suspect I'm exceeding my RAM usage. So I closed out of every obvious program I could and I checked out my processor and RAM usage. I looked and for the processor every 3 seconds it jumps to 100% usage then drops to 0% over and over and over. For the RAM it's constantly steady at 208MB of RAM used out of 512 when as far as I can tell all programs are closed. Any suggestions? Help? :guilty:

When in the Windows Task Manager (Alt-Ctrl-Del), go to the "processes" tab. In the CPU column look for which process is jumping to 100% each time.

Image Name: WUSB54GSC.exe
User Name: SYSTEM
CPU: 0 - 99
Mem Usage: 12,652K

That's the Linksys USB Adaptor network monitor software.

After some investigation, turning the network monitor "off" should remove the problem.

As for the RAM, I'm not too sure, but I have a very similar memory usage when all programs are closed too. I just think it's XP being a little bloated as it is.

I'm not sure why your games aren't working though.

I'm sure it's resource related regardless I am going to get a new computer (hopefully, is $542 asking for too much?) but if anyone can solve the problem in the time being I'd be greatful. G.T, yes it worked thank you very simple fix now i'm not tearing my CPU apart thanks. :)
