The strangest thing happened to me.

I let my bob do the 9hr of Tsukuba race because I went to work this evening and had plans afterwards. But when I came home after a late night at the pub (it's 4 am here now) Bob was still racing the 9hrs race. The timer was at 13 hours and 51 minutes and counting, Bob was still in first place but was following some nissan 350z in his 787b stealth and had zero tyre health left.

I turned my controller on but I couldn't do anything with the B-spec command, the arrow didn't even move from the radio pace-up command thing. So realising this race didn't end I tried to shut down my ps3 but it didn't want to and gave a black screen.

So I used the button at the back and restarted my ps3, which seemed to work fine and it booted.. But I don't know if GT5 will work tomorrow and if my GT5 and/or PS3 is imminent to crash soon...

Please comment if you've had a similar experience because this one of the weirdest things and I've read about most of the glitches/crashes on this site.

dont know if its of any consolation but ive had this happen to me before with OTHER games(fight night 4 comes to mind),where the game seems frozen but all controls are prevented from working and ps3 wont shut down properly.everything worked fine after(i have the slim if its any difference)

It is getting worse now, it froze up on a License test today, well it didn't really froze since the race continued (S-1) but I couldn't do anything.. So I restarted my Ps3 backed up all my savegames.

But when I start up GT5 it hangs at the loading screen with the logo, I can zoom in allright, but it doesn't go any further nor will my PS3 turn off the normal way, I have installed the latest system software, so I don't know what to do.

maybe vacuum my ps3?

Careful about vacuuming, get a can or 2 of compressed air and blow it out. You'll be amazed at all the dust.

So I tried the compressed air treatment, but I didn't know how to open up my PS3 so I don't think it worked.. And GT5 still hangs at the loading screen.

going to clean the disc and try another game now..

Other games refuse to start or even be recognized by the ps3 so maybe it's blu ray reader.. at least GT5 starts up a little bit :/

Don't use compressed air, as it will likely force some dust into areas that it wouldn't normally reach eg. blu-ray disc drive. It can even upset some connections on the board. Sony recommend the vacuum method.
On topic: clean the disc drive and see if that helps :)

But wouldn't vacuuming the system still damage it? It's like you are forcing air into the system with the air can, only you are forcefully sucking it out now. Wouldn't that too upset some connections?

I vacuumed some of my consoles, and they're still fine, so I assume nothing will happen.

I was thinking of vacuuming mine out for several days, but I always hesitated as my console is the fat 80 gb console, and it already had warranty work done on it.

I take it you guys are doing it with a small hand held vacuum?

Yeah, nothing too powerful

I think Stig wax off.

Use a special vacuume for computers. They do not generate the static charge that can damage the circuits.

I don't know if you intended for that to sound how it did but LOL,Where would you go about getting one of those vacuums?Would using the static gloves/wrist band(for PC tech's) help(i doubt it,just wondering)
