does anyone know
Yes but we don't want an update to GT3, we want a game that has better graphics, better handling and all that. The main reason why I doubt Januarary is because PD are having problems implementing the online aspect because of the PS2's sub-par network adapters performance and you know how much of a perfectionist Kazunori is and so he won't release until he is totally satisfied with the end result.Originally posted by Majin SSJ Eric
I understand where everyone is coming from, regarding GT4's possible delay. I think, however, that these pessimistic views are unfounded. True, GT3 was delayed by a few months. What people seem to forget though, is that it was originally scheduled to be a launch title (remember GT2000?). Once they decided to make the game more substantial, any target release date thereafter was suspect (as they probably had no real idea how long it was going to take.)
Also keep in mind that GT3 was PD's first attempt at programming for the, then, new PS2. They have, no doubt, much more experience with the platform now, and should have no difficulties programming for it now (they have been working on GT4 since early 2001).
Finally, don't forget that many of the tracks and cars were already programmed (from GT3) and only need to be redone for GT4, as opposed to starting from scratch.
Given these facts (plus the fact that PD already had to deal with irrate fans due to the GT3 fiasco), I would say that January is quite likely as a release date. I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed to February, but any later seems unlikely to me.
