Official Asian Le Mans Series Thread

Well, it's the weekend of the Asian Le Mans Series premiere. I was hoping Radio Le Mans was going to be there to cover the events of the weekend but those plans didn't come to fruition. :(

Anyone here know of anyone who'll be in attendance?

Interesting point. I'm not real sure how cars powered by Super GT GT500 engines would do when dropped into an LMP race car.

Rollcentre Racing ran it's Dallara Chassis back in '05 with a Twin-Turbo Nissan V6 that was a test bed for they're Super GT 500-class engine...Besides, a GT500 car is nearly as fast as an LMP1 nowadays (Look for a video of when Dome tested it's LMP1 Coupe against one of it's Super GT Honda NSX's).

I just hope that the Asian Le Mans Series doesn't flame out like the "Asian Lemans Challenge" did...
 
Okay... I'll be honest. I LOVE Super GT, and not just the race queens. I love the racing in Super GT. But the reason why I've been uncertain about the GT500 engines and GT500 cars is because I become uncertain that a GT500 race car is still not on the same pace as any of the FIA GT cars or something. Maybe I'm too stuck in the past, but I do think Super GT cars are fast and capable. So I'm sure these prototypes with GT500 engines will be really capable.

As for the AsLMS itself, with all the new tracks in Asia, I think this series will finally have a bunch of racing courses to race at. They could try the Yas Marina Circuit in the future. Also, don't forget about the forthcoming F1 courses in South Korea and India. And even though it's the Asian Le Mans Series, I'd even like them to run a race in Australia if they can. Eastern Creek and Phillip Island come to mind for me. This series has a bright future ahead of it if it can really provide as competitive and as active of racing as its counterparts in Europe and North America.
 
First Practice is completed, full of surprises! the only non Surprise of the Session is seeing Shinji Nakano in the Sora Pescarolo leading the P1 and overall pack. The Tokai Courage is 5 seconds off the pace. The Hitosoyama Aston is leading the GT1 class and is only 1.5 seconds off the Tokai Courage. The Jim Gainer Ferrari is leading GT2, second is the Hong Kong Aston, third is the RLR BMW, and the Robertson Ford is 5 seconds off the GT2 pace. The next practices and Quali will be very interesting to say the least.
