Katherine Legge to test F1 car
Britain's top female racer Katherine Legge is to test for the Minardi team at Vallelunga at the end of this month. The 25-year-old from Northampton will be the first woman to have a meaningful F1 test since the days of Giovanna Amati back 1991. Legge has made a big impression this year in her first year as a professional racer, driving in the Toyota Atlantic Championship. Legge has been setting new standards throughout her career.

Interesting stuff, will we see a female F1 racer soon on the grid then.

I doubt it. There are few seats available as it is, and to take a risk on a female would be too high for most teams. She’d make for an excellent sponsorship opportunity though.

Maybe in a few years, but I don’t see it happening for a while yet.

Blake

Plus you gotta remember Minardi won't be around next year :( Unless she gets sponsored by Red Bull in the near future i don't think she will be in F1 for 06, maybe 07 but then shes got Dannica Patricks to fight off.

I'm not being sexist here, not like Bernie...just realistic. The only female that has a chance of landing a race drive in F1 is Danica Patrick, and that is slight at best. Danica is a great race driver and she would bring such large amounts of money, sponsors, fans and press (mostly American) to F1 that it would be the biggest boom for F1 ever.

The chances of it happening are slim to none however. Autosport is way to sexist and the F1 world is even more closed.

Let's see if a former race queen can become a team boss (McLaren B-team, Misato Haga)...I still think the chances of that are slim to none.

Agreed and it is a shame really, wasn't Danica leading the indy 500 towards the end?

Yes, Danica was leading Indy 500 in the final laps. But she had to conserve fuel so she couldn't run the car at 100% (which is why she fell back and finished 4th).

Harsh.

Danica is the real deal. She really is. She has had some bad luck this season and the press has been on her like nothing else. People also forget she is a rookie. She did pretty damn good this year. Hey she got me following the IRl to some degree just to see how she is doing. Right there is a big thing. I think alot of people followed the IRL this season that normally wouldn't have.

Not to mention Danica is hot too which also goes along way in the press. How many guys are following her because she is hot....many I would assume.

Wern't that bout some stupid driver saying she makes the car lighter since shes a woman?

Surely she must be up for rookie of the year if they have one in IRL?

If someone's good enough, they're good enough, whether they have dangly bits at waist height or chest height.

Focussing on her gender perpetuates sexism.

I don't think Bernie would understand "sexism".

It isn't about risk. It doesn't matter that she's female. The only thing that matters is whether she beats out the competition for a seat. If she does that, there is no risk - only the selection of the best competitor.

In the grand scheme of things I agree. But unfortunately because she is an attractive woman she will get more notice.

But look at it this way. Women are perfect race car drivers, esepcailly for open seaters. They are smaller, lighter and studies show women have a better ability to focus concentration.

bee Robbie Gordon and Dan "look at me I'm champion, please look at me, please" Wheldon were the two I remember being most vocal about Danica's weight advantage. Robbie Gordon basically said he won't race IRL cars again until they do something about it. Dan Wheldon just complained in general all season about Danica. Mostly ebcause he was winning and no one really cared. Danica was the bigger story. Not to mention Dan Wheldon is a big blubbering cry-baby.

I think the IRL defines car weight as the car ONLY, no with the driver in it like F1 (right?). So Danica did have a huge weight advantage over your typical 180-90pound male driver.

They should really, especially dan, realise though that driver skill does come into play aswell, no good having a light car if the driver can't handle it now is there?

Well blubbering baby boy Dan was complaing all season about her weight advantage and at the same time was slamming Danica as over-rated every chance he got.

Methinks he really is afraid of her skill....

I mean Danica isn't the best driver ever...but she is very very good and alot better than people give her credit for. Yes she is cute but she has got to where she is from her on track performance. Not what is under her overalls. That might have opened some doors for her but she kept them open with her driving skills.

Dan [...] was slamming Danica [...] every chance he got.

Scandal on the grid! I bet he saw her pit-box though, eh?

I think Legge is a better driver than Patrick.

I told you guys that Legge could be part of F1. I saw her mop the floor in a Toyota Atlantic race, and I was sold.

Edit: Do you think, instead of Race Queens, we'll see a bunch of these guys, pre-race, on her grid position?

I sure as hell hope not...

I know who id rather see in F1.

Maybe they are Bi...

LOL.

Man, you do mean Danica, right? Because Katherine isn't THAT bad looking.

Yeah i actually meant Katherine:p She is much hotter than Danica.

Yeah, I agree. However, by that totally unflattering picture you posted, it was really hard to tell which way your were going.

http://www.gokatherine.com/

check out the second pic in her gallery there. Man she is amazing.

Btw, it says, in the 2001 2002 season of formula renault i think it was, she beat a lap record set by Kimi Raikkonen, thats impressive.

They have the support of god, they must be worth a shot. 👍

While I agree on principle, I think it is very different in practice. I mean, apart from anything else, driving an F1 car is a hell of a lot different to driving a Toyota Atlantic car.

And why do I see this thread turning into a Katherine Legge fan club…

Blake

Because im about to change the title to it:lol:
