No guys, let me be more clear, because some of you keep suggesting Corollas. They are small, and just simply will not do. I am moving pretty much all my crap excluding my bed. So it's my computer, bass + amp, 3 different pieces of my desk, which is medium sizeish, dresser, and all of my personal items. I may be using a U-Hual trailer, but not sure at this point.

And how do I afford 14k at 17? Um, I don't, I have a dad that makes well over 90k a year. And a mom that makes about 45k. Which is average for Marin County.

And no I'm not a senior. I am a junior that is dropping and taking this big test that cost me $92 to get my GED, and attending a private college with a couple buddies that live down there. I will be working from about June this year-December or early January, and then I'm driving to Taveres Florida. Which is near Orlando.

Here is some things that I have looked at.

Ok guys, after thinking about how I'm going to deal with this, I have decided thats it's useless trying to get all my crap down to Florida, and how I don't need a bunch of it. So now I just want a cheap to run fun and reliable car. But still can hold a decent amount of stuff but thats not really an issue since I don't have much to bring.

Same price, and it still needs to have enough leg room in the front, but being 5"8' I don't have to worry about that but still needs to be comfy :D

So this is some other things I have looked at, and I have greatly looked at that Mazda3 you linked Thirdeye and that sits high on my list of cars.

All but one of those look like good choices.
The RSX with a ton of miles on it, would be right out!
The 'lude would be my first choice for a nearly daily driven toy.
Unmolested Hondas are hella-reliable, and that one is low miles.
My issue with the RSX is not that Hondas aren't reliable, but that old girl is pushing 100,000 miles!
The 'lude is older and has just over half as many miles.
I've been burned with great looking cars that were "reliability challenged", so that is my worry.
If you move cross country, you don't want to have to deal with a car that is broken, and you either can't afford to have it fixed, or you have to call dad to bail you out. The purpose of moving across country is to be "independent", after all...
Been there, done that, it sucked!

That was my guess to. And I'm the type to stay out of trouble ;)

And I'm not going to be completely alone. I know at least 15 people down there, one of them who will be my roommate. And it's not that I can't afford to fix the car, it's the fact that I really don't want to to die on my way to Florida.

And College? I'm not sure, I'm going back and forth between what I want to do. Full Sail was my original plan, and study graphic design. But I may just end up joining a couple other people and go to the local college and learn coding/programing there. It's supposed to be really good college, so I'm not sure. But either way I live pretty simply, and I don't spend money much so I will have some extra in case something does go wrong, I will be able to afford it.

My 21 year old recently bought a Mazda 3.
My 23 year old recently bought a Mazde 6, so did we for the mother-unit.

All three cars are very nice. Not a one of them left the lot over $20K.
Plus, the guys worked with us to give us the most possible warranty coverage based on the number of miles the cars will be driven yearly.

Add that to: not everyone is driving one (okay the 3's are everywhere, the 6's not as much). The 2.0 liter Mazda3 gets 30+ MPG which is important when gas is as expensive as it is in California.
It seems to be reliable. Even the basest of the base models comes with a 6 CD/MP3 changer, and an iPod plug in.
Oh, and it's not boring to drive.
Also with a 3, if you can go out to about 20 grand, you will have the nicest 3 on the road short of a Mazdaspeed3 with the turbo, and the bigger motor.

I know they must be pretty nice, as my wife gets a little bent out of shape when I wanna drive her new car.

This isn't a lot of miles for a Honda. At all. That car could be driven hard as hell and still last another 50,000 at least. If the price is good, go for it I say.

Yeah, I would start getting worried if it had 150000 or probably 200000 miles on it. This one probably had mainly highway miles.

I guess it is only 15-16 thousand miles a year.
It just seems like there are other better choices there.
If it was my money, I would be looking for the newest car with the least miles, and the most remaining warranty coverage.

We each have our own fears. Having been stuck in the boonies more than often enough, I know what I want.

Ok well times have changed. Instead of going for GED I'm finishing my high school year and then going to a local college so no moving (thank god). I will be 18 in 3 months and I will get a car (hopefully) on my 18th birthday if I have good enough grades. And considering I have straight A's right now hopefully I will continue with that.

I was thinking, would a down payment on a new car be a good idea and pay it off the rest of it monthly?
