Long story short, the crank broke and f'ed up the entire top end. 1986 crank designed to operate at 7000-8000RPM is pushed to 10,000+ and held for a while,and then it wouldnt start, sent the motor out to be look at. The motor builder called us and gave a akward silence and then explained what had happened:
Crank cracked and then broke in a few pieces and tore the top end up and the top of the head up(first pic), it could have been MUCH worse...so lucky

cr500 go-kart, holy 🤬 thats fast. I own a YZ125 dirt bike and have riden dads CRF450, so i know that a CR500 engine would be totally insane!
 
Ouch, but it should be expected that things will eventually brake when engines are held 3000 RPM over redline.:lol:
Does that engine have a sleeve with ports in it? If it does was the sleeve damaged at all?

Man, I can't wait to see the carnage when my Honda motor lets go :trouble:

I love seeing damaged engines, not from the financial point of view though :lol:

You will probably find some parts nicely exited the engine out a new custom hole they will make. :lol:

Engine failures always fascinate me.

Can't beat that! Plus, it's unique only to you. tell people that it's an uber Rare Mugen self ventilating block, and you could make lots of $$$ on eGay.
