Oh why won't you work!!! yet another problem

Yipee! That dreadful toshiba has been repaired, but now the usb drives aren't working :grumpy:. I can't understand it, it says they're working fine, but they just don't recognise anything i plug into them. Any ideas before i run the recovery disk?
There are no files on it whatsoever, and i can't figure out why on earth it won't accept anything. Anyone?
 
Had a look around online and found these. Totally unsure of how useful they'll be.

Have you got a motherboard disk with the mobo drivers on it?

If so have a look in it and find the USB drivers there.

Alternatively have a look online and try to find the driver pack for your mobo.

Also you could try installing SP2 as this should include a solution apparently.
 
Are you running Windows XP or 2000?

If not, you need to download drivers for each device you need connected.
 
If you're running XP you might have to go into the Device Manager (properties on My Computer > Hardware) and if there's a (!) icon you need to install the drivers for the USB root hub. Sometimes XP 'forgets' to install the device drivers because it didn't pick up the USB root hub. After you do that restart the computer and they should be working fine.
 
Ok, tried all of them. I've installed service pack 2 for xp, and the device manager says everything is ok, so i'm pretty much stuck.
 
There's a huge chance that they somehow borked the usb controller during the repair. It took 2 motherboard replacements on my laptop before the USB ports actually worked. The first new mobo's usb controller died just a few months after the repair...
 
I think you're right. I just recovered windows, and the problem remains. :guilty:

Looks like it's going in for repair once more. I expected it to last a bit longer than 3 days before it got returned again, but hey, what else can i do?
Looks like the desktop will be returning once more.
