Oil Change Increases Power

Got a Kasubi Mazda built to the 197bhp standard build that everyone is using for the Seasonal TT. That's 197bhp BEFORE it's ever been driven.

Did about 100 laps. Changed the oil... 207bhp.

WTF? This is surely a bug.. or magic oil.

Not happy as of course this means the car isn't eligible for the TT... so new car.. sigh

Lol, everybody who has owned the game for 2 or more days knows this already.

If you want you can just use the car over and over until the oil becomes grimy, than the HP will start to drop again.

You couldn't remove some of the parts you've installed on the KUSABI to lose the 10bhp?

Read the description. This isn't regular oil, it's high viscosity competition oil. By lessening the friction, you squeeze more power out of the engine.

Wow! When did this start happening! Did this oil change HP bonus bug just happen last patch?

[sarcastic font on]

it's always been like that in every Gran Turismo ever made.

Its not a bug, its realism. When the car's oil gets dirty, the power gets restricted. what clean oil does is bring it back to factory specs.

It's been like that since they introduced Oil Change in GT. (GT3 or 4).

Yes bringing it back to original spec is fine.

Adding another 10HP to the power as it was when you built it is either a bug or one of the most frustrating design decisions ever (IMO).

And actually the description is at best ambiguous. "Reduce power loss" would indicate to me a purely negative and resorative funtion to oil. Not a power boost.

Anyway I know now.

Have you ever driven an actual car? If so, then this would make sense to you.

oil change power increase was also in GT4!

This is a case where realism just becomes annoying, especially with the introduction of strict power guidelines in the seasonal events.

With every other thing that can increase power, they tell you how much so you can make sure you're not going to be over spec. But they don't tell you with the oil change, and it is very easy to make a car you bought specifically for an event unusable.

They need to either add something telling us how much power we will gain by adding super duper racing oil or give us the ability to add restrictors, like you would be able to in real life.

It's not just the oil change that can cause problems, the power figure can change between dealership and your garage even though you have literally done nothing to your car, apart from buy it.

A classic example of this is the Mazda RX8 concept - 246bhp in used dealership and once you have bought it, go to your garage and check the power, it's 280bhp??

Alternatively, the power of a new RX8 's' drops by 5bhp from dealership to garage???

As you correctly say, with the introduction of seasonal events, small power differences can cause problems.

I agree about the oil change showing an improvement figure - great idea, it would also be cool if the engine rebuild option showed this aswell.

That would really save some money.

I had this happen too. Go to practice circuits and remove traction stabilty etc and go manual. Then do 5 minutes of max rev donuts. Works a treat!!
