I've been told, for homework, to find out why oil is so expencive at the moment (i know that, duh), but also where the money goes. So, for example, for £1 spent on fuel, what percentage of money goes in tax, what percentage goes to the supplier e.c.t.

Can anyone help?

Much appreciated

And this one too.

Prices will vary per country and so will the tax on Fuel (oil).

Duty and tax account for 75-80% of the pump price. For example, figure 1 shows the typical breakdown of a litre of unleaded petrol at the average UK major brand pump price of 76.3p (2003 average). Of this, 57.5p is duty and tax, 13.5p represents the cost of product and 5.3p is available to the oil company/retailer to cover the cost of supply from a refinery through to the filling station, as well as their profit.

Not up to date but an idea.

Thanks everyone for the help! I couldn't find anything in google, probably wasn't searching with the right words.

Search for things related to OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries). Also, each state in the US has different gas taxes, and there are federal gas taxes. They also add things like a minimum of 10% ethanol to our gas. In Wisconsin gas also has a minimum 20% markup on it, so the price goes up a lot.
