I have an old car in my driveway(my=my parent's and I have= might as well be mine anyways), a 1985 Chevy celebrity station wagon. Me and my friends agree it would be hilarious if I did drive around in a station wagon and then of course, it's not like I got the money to get a car at the moment anyways. So now, It's been sitting in the drive way for about three years. Maybe two.. Actually more like more than three years. Well lets see here.. So it's sat there for at least a couple of summers and a couple of winters without being used. I plan to attempt to start the car on Monday of this comming week. I plan to use a battery charging unit that my father got from sears a while ago which has the ability to probide power to start the car since it is very, very likely the battery that is in the car is now totally shot.

Does anyone know of any possible things I may encounter? Anything I should be aware of? My priority is simply to make the automobile start as of now.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

 welcome to my world :D

ok first the gas may have went bad after sitting 2 or 3 years

then a good tune up would be in order you know plugs cap rotor wires. if it doesnt have a distributor you may want to check the crank sensor clean it with a fine emory or sand paper ( thats only if it doesnt have a dist. in it)then give it a whirl may start up before any of this stuff ,but if it doesnt try this stuff

You will need to replace the tyres for safety sake if the car has been sitting in the same spot for 2 years. The old ones will probably have developed cracks and become brittle from having pressure applied to one side of the tyre for so long. Also change the engine oil, tranny fluid and brake fluid. Engine oil to remove the old, potentially grimey oil, tranny for the same reason and brake fluid in case the old fluid has been diluted from water condensation/leaks.

Also the brakes may have a layer of rust on them which will mean that it will be very hard to stop when you first run it.

If/when you do start it, take it somewhere safe so as to check everything is in working order. Don't go driving down the road hoping the brakes will work. This will endanger yourself and others.
And make sure it is road worthy, ligths work, exhaust is still there etc

Thank you all for the info you are providing. I just started my xmas vacation today.. I plan to attempt to start it today with my dad's battery charging unit that has a start feature. Before that I'm gonna check the fuel.. i think it's called the viscosity of..(looks at google) but yeah.. Lets see what happens.. ooh fire.. jk.. we'll know soon enough.
