Old formulas, new game.....

Hi all.... Just getting back into GT after being gone for a few years and looking for some help, more like hoping someone has links or written info on a few things....

Back in my old GT2 Tuning days I had a bunch of formulas written down in various notebooks that got used for other things as the years passed, and I've lost them all.... Mainly my suspension and gearbox formulas... I'm gonna give what info I have on the suspension in hopes that someone will see it and remember/know where it originated from.... It goes something like this, this is all from memory so may be off a bit but it was relating to the bound/rebound settings, to get the bound settings from the spring rate, multiply the rate by .5 and the rebound multiply by .3,

Example
Spring - 16.8 x .5 = Bound 8.4, if under .5 round down so Bound =8
Spring - 16.8 x .3 = Rebound 5.04 again rounding to 5

The formula has always worked for me, i just would like to remember were I got it from cause the text had alot more usefull info... lol

Now the gearbox formula I cant remember at all, all I have is a few written ratio equations that I cant make any sense of.... Going back and forth between GT2 and GT4 and going over the settings isnt helping at all....

I dont know, if anyone happens to know were these formulas came from let me know...
 
Might I be so bold as to ask to see the transmission equations you say you have? It seems quite interesting.

As has been said time and time again on GTP, tuning formulas are not a way to maximize a car's handling. In GT4 escpecially, many cars have completely different chassis characteristics, and one formula will not go a long way at all. Of course, there are typical guidelines which tend to hold true, such as 'rebound should not be lower than bound,' but this is where the umbrella statements end.

That said, I am still, for some reason, interested in that transmission formula you say you have.
 
I know there's a gearing formula somewhere in a relatively recent thread - it's adapted from real-life tuning guidelines though so I don't know how well it will translate to GT4. The search function should be able to find it though. EA is right about bound and rebound - cars nearly always perform better if the bound is softer than the rebound. The idea there is that you want the bound soft to allow the car to absorb track surface variances, and the rebound stronger to return traction back to the road as quickly as possible. This can differ if you want, for instance, to promote rear-end breakaway - in that case a stronger bound might help.

As far as gearing goes, there's a general "transmission trick" that a lot of tuners use. It goes as follows: (1) Set the final drive ratio to its highest value (usually 5.500 but this varies from car to car). (2) Move the Autoset to 25, then all the way back to 1. (3) Use the final drive ratio to adjust the length of the gears. Generally, the idea is to set the car to achieve a tad bit past its point peak power in its highest gear at the braking point at the end of the longest straight on the track in question. If wheelspin is a problem, simply lengthen the first few gears, or if necessary in extreme cases, lengthen the final drive ratio and bring the top few gears back in to the correct point. This "tranny trick" combined with trial and error usually works best for me in this case, rather than any specific formula to determine FDR and each independent gear ratio.

I would love to share the equations.... I just dont remember them, im still looking for the rest of my GT2 notebooks, hopefully they are in there. I just moved back home and my parents have boxed up all the stuff i left here, lol.... If i recall correctly, they were based on real life formulas, RPM... MPH... this, that... i really dont remember, :grumpy:

As for the tranny trick.... i found it was a good way to get a base setting in GT2 and GT3, i dont like it so much for 4.....

like i said, im still lookikng for all my tuning books, when i find them i will share all!!!
