Hey guys,

i just found a couple of old games that i used to play when i was way younger.
Just for the fun i would like to run them and spent some time with good old PC memories from the days :)

One of the games is : Industrie Gigang from JoWood
and the oder one is: Tomb Raider IV - The last Revelation from Eidos.

I installed Industrie Gigant but when i want to run it, it gives the win32.dll Error.

I googled around but there was no proper solution for this games.

Could anybody please advise me on how to run older games.

Thanks

Chris

have you tried running in compatibility mode and checking "run as administrator" on the exe?

thanks gabbie, but yea, i tried running on XP- service pack 2 and win 98-95 but nothing helped. I haven't tried "run as admin" yet. What different should that make?

Chris

I'm not sure, but when I check "run as admin", it worked for Jedi Knight II: Jedi outcast.

I've had similar problems with the Lappy. Namely that Vista killed both of the Interstate games even though they should work (based on other people's experiences). I ended up having to do an XP boot partition (though I didn't try the games in "Run as Administrator" mode either...).

Run as Administrator will only make a difference if you have multiple users profiles on the PC.

hmmm ok understood. I just read something about Virtual Pc that emulates other OS. I could do that, but i dont have any Win98 or XP CD with me :S

Chris

Especially if you want to get 98, it wouldn't be a big deal to just download a CD image. I can't tell you how to do that, though, per GTP's AUP.

Microsoft's VirtualPC with a modded, ultralight copy of Windows XP is the way to go. I use this regularly for out of date apps that won't run on Vista x64 edition. It does wonders and performs quite well if you have a multi-core cpu and a healthy amount of ram.

ok great. I'm gonna go google now Microsofts VirtualPC and get it, but what do you mean by ultralight modded copy of Win XP?

I have 2gb Ram, i think that should do it. And anyways, i just wanna run a game that maybe takes up to 64mb of ram :P

Thanks

Chris

EDIT:// so, i downloaded MS Virtual PC but when i double click the setup file it tells me that i'm not running a supported version on Window's.
I have Windows Vista Home, and i checked on MS page and its not listed among supported OS.

What am i supposed to do now? Is there any other Emulation OS Program out there that works with Vista Home?

i got the 2007 version, but hang on, tomorrow i'm getting a Win98 CD from a friend that has one. I'll try and see if it works.

Chris

Just keep going with the program. MS does not officially support VirtualPC under Vista. It works just fine.

By a modded, ultralight copy of XP, I mean just that. All the fat was trimmed from the OS - unnecessary drivers, dlls, services, whatever. It wasn't necessary so it was removed. I only went this route to minimize the drive space the virtual OS used up.

Hmm, I think I'll need to check into this for when I reinstall XP soon. It would be great to have an OS with speed approaching Windows 98 territory again.

ok, i got Win98 SE today, i inserted it but it just didnt start... the VP didnt load the cd so nothing has happened :(

Chris

Dude Win 98 is ancient now, its just annoying to use as it is so user dependant on every little thing. There is still some fun old games but...I can't be bothered to play them...I have GT, and while I do...nothing else gets attention lol.
Take it easy fellas,

I don't have VPC in front of me to show you how, but I'll tell you this - you need to mount the cd within the virtual pc and then reboot the vpc environment.

ok guess what guys, it works and i played my games and perfect. Thank emad for your advice!

Just a short notice on the side, when i double clicked on the Drive D and it was empty, an error message came with that Win98 Bong... might sound stupid now but i like hit the error for 5 times just to hear that Win98 Bong... you wont believe how many memories came up with that Bong :D
