Hello everyone, 47 years old here and just recently got into gt5,due to the fact that i can play it and it doesnt make me feel sick.Im not sure if it is motion sickness or the jerkyness of past games but havent had much luck with being able to play.Anyway i have to be about 6 or 7 feet from the screen while im playing ,if im up close at about 3 to 4 feet i get to feeling sick. I just recently have been trying out a steering wheel my son gave me to try out it is a logitecth driving force with brake and gas pedal. How good is this set up ? Als if it isnt that great what should i go with and is there a wireless set up since i cant sit that close. My game and tv will be about 6 ft away from me.Any help will be appreciated. thanks

Are you sure they allow video games in old people homes? :p
I kid, I kid.

Since most wheels are USB, you can buy some USB extension cords on Ebay for pretty cheap. That will get you enough length for sure. I'm not sure about the wireless thing though.

Oh, and Logitech Driving Force GT is the best bang for your buck. The Logitech G27 is a better wheel, but it can cost upwards of $300.

Hey old man, lol. I'm 46 myself so I'm right there with you, lol. Anyways, I have done just as the above poster suggested as I simply don't like being that close to the tv. An usb extension cable put me about 9 feet from the tv. Picked one up from Staples for $10.00. I am using a G27 with a Playseat. I did have the wheel your using tho and it worked fine. My daughter is still using it and likes it quite well also. Good to know I'm not the only old man playing this game, lol.

I wish I was as old as you guys try 72. Fanatec makes a wireless wheel

I get all my AV cables from monoprice. They have great prices and accept paypal. I sit about 10 to 12 feet from my PS3 and went with the 6ft black cable. I have the Logitech G27 wheel. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10303#1030304

If you plan on going with a wired headset you may as well pick up extensions with the USB cable.

P.S. I'm also in my 40's and race with plenty of others our age. Enjoy your game!

Edit: They also sell Ethernet cables if you want a wired connection to your router or modem. If your not wired it is highly recommended and helps with connection issues.

Wow thanks guys, i did not realize there where so many hmmm mature guys playing the game, lol. Thanks fo the help.

53 here and my girl friend would laugh at the mature comment.....

50 here and who are you calling mature

56 here and I have my PS3 sitting about 10 feet from my TV via a 16 ft HDMI cable 46" HDTV,700 watt Sony receiver, plus cable box makes way too much heat. I think I could almost cook a pizza while playing. This is something you could maybe do. Did have to use extension USB cable for the PSeye.

58, and I'm about three feet from the monitor. I'm using the Logitech DFP.

I've got my PS3 sitting on its side angled slightly with a small desktop fan attached to the back of my entertainment center aimed at the bottom of my PS3. Helps immensely with the cooling. Make sure you aim the fan at the bottom because if you aim it at the back of your PS3, you will be blowing dust into the back of it. Just some tips for cooling.

I did that with my "Fatboy" all 3 of them, now have a slim on checking temp with RF temp reader it's only running at about 100 degrees. Fats ran around 110-120. Slim is setting on side and do have small fan ready if needed.

Why not pull the ps3 further away from the tv. Hence giving you more USB cable length.

As far as cooling goes I use a 20$ laptop cooler from Walmart but I have a friend that glued together 4 stacks of pennies and sat his ps3 on top of them like pillars.. Says it works great!

The Logitech Driving Force GT wheel is a good setup, my friend has one... you may need to calibrate or do some adjustments to get it working just the way you like but it's a solid rig. Regarding your vertigo problem, the USB extension cable is your ticket for space away from the TV screen. I wouldn't bother pulling the console and all the other stuff out away from the TV, just seems counter-productive to me.

I have a slim so I'm not worried about any cooling issues, but just to allow the stock fans to work efficiently, I raised my console with a couple square wooden dowels 1" by 1" by 8" and laid them down parallel front-back (longitudinal orientation) about 8 inches apart, then put the PS3 on top of those two sticks. Had it 1.5 years with no problems so it's a happy console... now if I could just keep the dust out of it LOL!

Instead of pennies I used 4 prescription drug bottle caps. I then set them on that rubber shelf liner non-sliding padding. When I get a chance I'll probably use this easily removable RC servo tape to stick the caps to the PS3.

Female, 51 next month, and also have the DFGT. :)

I use this driving rig, which keeps the TV far enough away for me. It may be a bit too close for you though, dragonman, as I'm only about 4ft back.

For cooling I use 2 old VHS video cassettes standing on their sides, in a 'T' formation. Works fine, my PS3 stays uber-cool.

@ toplesscouple: 51 female & playing GT5 on a rig? RESPECT!
Also love your sig!

What is this? A meeting point for "older" people? Just kidding. By the way: People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. :(

Tried a (okay: cheap) wheel and went back to my DS3 controller. Is there a huge difference between different wheels? Or: Can money buy good GT Academy results?

Best value for money is probably the DFGT. You won't be sorry...

GTA results would depend on how well you use it. ;)
