If you may have heard of "NAM" before, it's also called "NAPALM." This is a game based off of Duke Nukem's Build Engine. I know the Build Engine full well as I have made levels with the Build Engine for over 6 or 7 years. Is this a good war game? Suit up, solider.
The game is centered around the Vietnam War. You are Adam Westmoreland of the USMC during the lengthy Vietnam War. Your Tour of Duty takes you into Southeast Asia, having you go through forests, POW Camps, Cambodia, all the way to the final showdown in Saigon. Unlike Duke Nukem, you have some teammates to work with, your Radioman, Demoman, Grunt, and the most invaluable commidity- the Medic. One thing you really begin to notice is that while many of the textures are new, MANY of the textures from Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem 3D Atomic/Plutonium Pack are in the game. Your sprites as well as some of the enemies really look like recycled images of Duke Nukem. So there isn't really much in the way of new characters. Just about all the weapons are licensed from your Remington shotgun to your M72 Law. There are no boss fights, but the only thing close to even a boss fight would be taking down rocket-firing tanks. You can even man mortars and a specialized machine gun.
PROS: teammates don't fight for you, but do provide costly assistance; many types of weapons to use both collectible and stationary; challenging and interesting firefights; all types of different enemies from soldiers to snipers to air raids
CONS: a lot of Duke Nukem sounds and textures are used; voice acting is okay; some levels seem to be repetitive. Sometimes, going through one forest, you been through all of them; lot of recycled Duke Nukem sprites to make enemies even yourself; doesn't really feel like a completely different game
FINAL VERDICT: This is more like a TC (total conversion) you could buy. I'll still say this is okay if you want to check out a modified Build Engine with new features, get this from as a bargain bin deal. If you want a completely different DN statement, download your own TC for DN3D and leave this one behind. (Final: 5.50/10.00)
