Ok. Besides the first two Gran Tourismo's what old school racing games do you think everyone should play at least once?

Here are mine.
Jarret & Labonte Racing (PSX)
Destruction Derby 2 (PSX)
CART Racing (PSX)
Sled Storm (PSX)
SODA Off Road Racing (PC)
CART Racing 2 (PC)

Don't include anything newer than 2k1

Mine are all PSX, a collection I take away with me when I'm working away (can't take the PS2 - the kids moan and the X-box is just to damn big).

Colin McRae Rally - The original, just to see how decent rally games started.
V-Rally 2 - Great fun, great track builder and hidden 'Climb Dance' footage
TOCA 1 + 2 - Good hardcore track races
Vanishing Point - Bit iffy graphics wise and strange structure to it, but good fun all the same.

Now as I am working away this week (and next) I'm off to New Zealand in the orginal Colin McRae

I live for racing games. I'm currently testing out my Renault Clio Sport V6 Phase 2 in GT4 as I think of other racing games that are as fun as this ride that I have newfound respect for. Hey Renault, if you return to America, I think MANY performance types will love this quirky French rocket.

Back on topic... these are all based on past experiences. They are all based on games I've played before. And I will remember that the games have to be before 2001:

---Nintendo Entertainment System---
Excitebike (mid-late 1980s)
Rad Racer (1987)
R.C. Pro AM (1988)
Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing (late 1980s to early 1990s)
R.C. Pro AM 2 (1992)

---Super Nintendo---
Only one classic I'll recommend from my experience:

Super Mario Kart (1990 or 1991)

---PlayStation 1---
Ridge Racer (1993)
Rage Racer (1996)
Ridge Racer Type 4 (1998)
Jarrett and LaBonte Stock Car Racing (1999; hate the name, love the game)
(all three WipeOut games, but I haven't played the original WipeOut)

---PlayStation 2---
Ridge Racer V (1999)
Le Mans 24 Hours (2000)

---Arcade---
Pole Position (1981-1983)
Pole Position 2 (198?)
Daytona USA (1994)
Sega Super GT/SCUD Race (1996 - my favorite arcade racing game of all-time)
Sega Rally Championship (1995)
Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge (1998-ish)
Crusin' USA (mid-1990s)
Crusin' World (mid-late 1990s)
Ferrari F355 Challenge (2000 - loud!!!)

---PC---
Daytona USA (1994 - still good. Probably wished it had the Arcade Music)
Indy Car Racing 2 (1995 - the old days of a successful (then) CART)
Need for Speed 2: SE (1997 - the last great NFS)
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (late 1990s)
Moto Racer 2 (1998)
Sega GT Homologation Special (2000 - it isn't as good as Gran Turismo, but the best attempt as a GT environment)

OLD GAME I HOPE TO GET ONE DAY: Ferrari 355 F1 Challenge (2000, PS1)

Some of these games I've reviewed on GTPlanet. So you have my approval for most of these old schoolers.

[UPDATE]
---Nintendo 64 (UPDATE)---
Mario Kart 64 (199?)
Formula 1 World Championship (1998 - based on 1997 season with many of the courses before Tilke messed up some of the good ones)

---Arcade (UPDATE)---
San Francisco Rush: Rush the ROCK (199?)

JohnBM01
Jarrett and LaBonte Stock Car Racing (1999; hate the name, love the game)

Le Mans 24 Hours (2000)

Indy Car Racing 2 (1995 - the old days of a successful (then) CART)

I've played these three within the past 48 hours haha.

I was playing CART Racing (renamed version of Indy Car Racing 2) just a few minutes ago.

Monster Truck Madness 2 for PC was always fun and I wish they would make a third.

- Pole Position
- Outrun
- Great 1000 Miles Rally (not very common, but very fun)
- The Need for Speed SE
- Need for Speed High Stakes (with more custom cars and tracks available for the PC version than you could possibly imagine)
- Ridge Racer
- Daytona USA
- San Francisco Rush

For the -PC-
!!!!!!!!!!!WHIPLASH!!!!!!!!!!

This game was awesome it had double loops and jumps, and the cars would catch on fire. It's pretty old ran in DOS for the PC.

Rather then that....

Motor City Online - It was the best old school racer for building cars your could custimize engines so much in that game. They need to bring it back.

are "cart world series" and cart racing the same game?

cart world series was awsome :D it had tons of real tracks and a few crazy fantasy tracks like driving on the surface of the death star.

-Racing Jam on Arcade
That was a nice game with the clutch

-Tokyo Highway Battle on PlayStation
Feature Tsuchiya.

No.....

CART Racing is a 1995 PC SIMULATION. That game is a PS2 arcade game to the best of my knowledge

There is also a 1997 CART game for the PSX made by SONY that was pretty good.
