Old School Rally

I've just played the demo to this indie game called old school rally on switch. It launched yesterday for consoles, with a demo.

At this point, it's available on PC, Switch and Playstation. I think I read an Xbox version is upcoming.

Pros:
  • It's really recreated the graphical feel of the old Colin Mcrae rally PS1 games (With the option for accurate polygon distortion and PS1 style dithering)
  • I felt the handling was quite good, slippery, but not so much that it feels pretty difficult to drive.
  • It feels pretty good in short bursts (10 or so minutes)
  • I also really liked the small snippet of music I got, really had that late 90s-early 00's feel to it
Cons:
  • I felt the price of the game, at least on switch, was a bit excessive, nearly £20 on the Nintendo eShop. On Steam, it costs £8.50 without discount, and apparently has access to steam workshop
I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried it?

Bought it on the summer sale, and I find it enjoyable. It doesn't feel like it's trying to be more than a small game made to do a specific thing, and that makes it feel good in my hands. It is probably one that is best played in short bursts, and the handling is probably grippier than the hardcore rallyist would like, and Sweden is really just a snowy texture with no difference from the rest of the stages, but it's an enjoyable romp.

Nice for me considering I refunded DR2.0 outright and just don't vibe with Art of Rally.

Tried the demo yesterday. The controls are fairly easy to get used to, and there were only 3 cars but they all felt good.

Apparently there is some drama going on with this title, it has been delisted on Steam due to car appearances

Speculation on what car?

EDIT:

Hello Fellow Rally Racers,

We want to openly address a recent issue that has temporarily impacted Old School Rally's availability on the Steam Store.

As many of you know, Old School Rally began as a passion project led solely by our solo developer, Sakis. During the early stages of development, Sakis legally sourced certain car models under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license from Sketchfab, a trusted and reputable online model database. Sakis even proactively reached out to the original uploader to verify the ownership and received explicit approval for their use in our game, ensuring that proper credits were provided.

However, last Friday, we received an unexpected claim from another individual alleging ownership of some of these car models. Upon receipt of this claim, we immediately reached back out to the original uploader, who maintains their position regarding their rights to these models. Concurrently, we initiated respectful communication with the claimant to explore potential solutions and maintain open dialogue because we absolutely want to respect the rightful ownership of any assets we used.

Regrettably, rather than a continuation of discussions, on Monday Old School Rally was abruptly issued with a DMCA takedown notice, prompting Steam to temporarily remove the game from the store as per their policies (which is standard practice).

After careful internal discussion, and in order to bring back Old School Rally to Steam as soon as possible, and to safeguard the game from similar disruptions in the future, Sakis has decided to remove the contested car models entirely. In the immediate next build, the affected vehicles will temporarily be locked in-game and marked as "This car will be available again in an update soon". And rest assured, in the coming weeks, we'll be re-introducing all-original car model designs that still show resemblances to the classic legendary rally cars that we all love as replacements in waves.

We sincerely apologize for this unexpected interruption. On a brighter note, we have been truly touched by the overwhelming support and understanding shown by our incredible community. Your enthusiasm has deeply reaffirmed our commitment and passion for this project.

Thank you for your patience and unwavering support. We'll be back in full throttle very soon!

UPDATE

I've just checked, and it seems the entire store page has been delisted, it just redirects back to the homepage.

Apparently, the devs are in contact with Valve.

It's back, everyone!

Hello Fellow Rally Racers,

As many of you noticed, Old School Rally was briefly unavailable on the Steam Store due to a DMCA takedown notice.

We’re happy to share that after a thorough review by Valve's DMCA team, Old School Rally is now back online!

For those interested, the full details of the situation can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2824660/discussions/0/590651049589629945/

To prevent further disruptions, we've temporarily removed several car models from the game. You might notice some cars currently marked like this:

The development team has been hard at work behind the scenes, already replacing two of the affected models, with three more set to return within the next 24 hours. We aim to bring all the missing cars back into the game with entirely new, original models over the next 3–4 weeks, minimizing disruptions to the rally experience.

However, unfortunately, we must acknowledge that this change has impacted our creative community—workshop custom liveries created for the affected cars will no longer be compatible and will expire.

However, we deeply value the talent and passion of our community creators. Once the replacement work wraps up, we're planning a special Workshop contest specifically for the newly replaced models once they're all back in the game. We would greatly appreciate your support and creativity!

We sincerely apologize for this unexpected interruption. Throughout this challenging episode, your incredible support and enthusiasm have truly inspired and motivated our team. Rest assured, once we're fully past this bump, Old School Rally will continue improving, heading towards an exciting Full Release across all platforms and beyond.

Thank you once again for your patience, support, and understanding!
