Read my Daytona USA review? This game came next. Whereas Daytona was a game with fantasy race cars, this one features real cars from an actual racing make (now FIA GT, I believe) called the BPR Organisation. Don't worry, that's actual spelling. Here are the cars in detail: Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari F40, Dodge Viper GTS-R, and the McLaren F1. The Porsche 911 Turbo is told to be an "Easy Driving" car and is one of the slowest. The Ferrari F40 is a "Normal Driving" car with great speed. The Dodge Viper GTS-R has "High Torque," that high torque means better grip on the road and let's not forget the 400+ horsepower V-10! The McLaren F1 is a "High Speed" car. It has the most horsepower, most torque, and highest top speed in the game. There are four courses: Dolphin Tunnel is a Beginner track that has you going through a lovely aquarium passing by a marina. Twilight Airport is a nighttime race track through an airport terminal that emphasizes top speed. Magic Ruins is a technical figure-8 road course with tricky corners in lovely ancient setting with waterfalls and caves and torches to boot. Classic Castle is suicide for the inexperienced as this lovely European setting presents a lovely castle and all sorts of classical architecture. Review down below:

PROS: beautiful graphics; licensed cars; great music; can have as many as eight players when all linked together; exceptional control; challenging, but not difficult; three modes: Normal, Grand Prix, and Endurance; as many as 40 to a track, as few as 20 to a track

CONS: never released on console; physics are rather strange

VERDICT: One of my all-time favorite racing games. I think it has great replay value no matter where an arcade unit may be at.

OTHER INFO: The XBOX-only game OutRun 2 features all four Super GT/SCUD Race tracks as well as tracks from "Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge." Lucky XBOX gamers! Also, I've only completed one race, and that was Twilight Airport. The music to this track got me into the racing mood, and it helped me to stay focused.

After reading your Daytona USA post, I was thinking if you'll make a Sega Super GT one too.. :D
I liked this arcade racer but never really got used to it's controls. I love arcade racers but the driving of this game just felt different to me which made it harder to learn. It's still a really fun game though! Damn now I want Sega to release a "Sega arcade classics" game with their racing games in it :P

TBH I allways thought scud race sucked sompared to Daytona usa 1 and 2, but OMFG it was so damn pretty. When the model 3 hardware came out, it pretty much made a joke of everything else at the time.

Sega Super GT is quite enjoyable for the occassional race, the cinema I usually go to has a two-player setup so going to watch a movie usually involves a race in Sega Super GT. The handling is a little strange but is easy enough to pick up so most people can play reasonably well on their first go.

What's next John? Sega Rally 1 & 2?

To be honest, I like both Daytona USA and Super GT/SCUD Race. I just like how everything just nicely comes together. To me, a Saturday afternoon at an arcade room with Super GT in the house is cool to me. I normally like the Beginner Night course.

And what's next? Not sure yet. By the way, note the title of this thread is "SEGA Super GT..." This is because game company Jaleco made a game of the same name of "Super GT."

More info on the now-defunct BPR Organisation that Super GT/SCUD Race is based on:

Some of the all of the four cars in the game are either in one or both threads. More info about the game, there was a "SCUD Race Plus" which added some sort of toy bus for a selectable car, and then a "Super Beginner" track which was primarily an oval. And on top of that, this "Super Beginner" looks more like it took DNA out of Toy Story, because all the cars were really small in comparison to the level. The track was called "Merry Maze." If you think this sounds cool, actually, it didn't sell too well. It DID provide better graphics, I hear. Many people thought of Super GT/SCUD Race as a true sequel to Daytona USA, much like people thought "R: Racing Evolution" was a sequel to the Ridge Racer series.

To end this post, I'm still trying to figure out if ever there was a "SCUD Race 2." And by the way, SCUD stands for "Super Car Ultimate Drive." With the Gulf War in the 1990s, you can imagine that the name had to be changed for some markets.

I don't think there was a sequel to the game. There might have been plans for one but "SCUD Race 2" never existed in public :(
