Hi I have been following these forums for a while and just decided to join up, glad to be part of the community :)

Anyway after searching for GT5 cars on youtube I came across a comment that said usually older models are faster than the newer models. After doing some research I couldn't find anything else on the matter, so I decided to test the satistics of the BMW M5 2005 + 2008 and
Ford Mustang GT 2005 + 2007.
Im not the most skilled at drag racing but i tried to keep a balanced test for all (Mostly No driving assists) and everytime the older models came on top? (All stock, no tuning)

Ford Mustang 05 (309hp)
1/4 Mile - 0.14.733
1 Mile - 0.36.100
0-60mph - 0.06.143
0-100mph - 0.14.168
Max Speed - 160.6mph
Max G Force - 0.52G

Ford Mustang 07 (306hp)
1/4 Mile - 0.15.047
1 Mile - 0.36.846
0-60mph - 0.06.600
0-100mph - 0.15.781
Max Speed - 158.4mph
Max G Force - 0.50G

BMW M5 05 (498hp)
1/4 Mile - 0.12.650
1 Mile -0.30.476
0-60mph - 0.04.341
0-100mph - 0.09.353
Max Speed - 202.5
Max G Force - 0.73G

BMW M5 08 (509hp)
1/4 Mile -0.12.724
1 Mile - 0.30.812
0-60mph - 0.04.355
0-100mph - 0.09.555
Max Speed - 198.3
Max G Force - 0.75G

I just found these results to be rather interesting, especially the 2005 M5 as that has 11 less hp. Does anyone know the reasoning for this?

Ford GT 06 (560hp)
1/4 Mile - 0.11.697
1 Mile - 0.28.014
0-60mph - 0.03.633
0-100mph - 0.07.557
Max Speed - 217.5
Max G Force - 0.78G

Ford GT 05 (547hp - No restoration or oil change)
1/4 Mile - 0.11.647
1 Mile - 0.28.124
0-60mph - 0.03.527
0-100mph - 0.07.516
Max Speed - 214.2
Max G Force - 0.80G

Ford GT 05 (570hp - No restoration with oil change)
1/4 Mile - 0.11.558
1 Mile - 0.27.783
0-60mph - 0.03.518
0-100mph - 0.07.351
Max Speed - 216.9
Max G Force - 80G

Also added some results in for the Ford GT

Gear ratios and weights have a lot to do with it. Also shifting techniques. I have found that short shifting the 08 M5 will make it faster.

With the Mustang, it looks like the extra 3bhp did the trick. With the M5's though, I'm not sure what went wrong there for the '08.

So you tested two sets of cars and one set was within experimental error of being the same. That isn't exactly conclusive.

Ford GT is the same.

GT500 NSX's are the same.

Honda s2000 are the same.

Lotus Esprit are the same

BMW M3 (at same PP) are the same

As in all older standards are faster!!!

Also I know there is more to add to the list like the 05 and 02 Ford GT, feel free to improve my results or add more, thanks.
The Mustang has a correct redline (1000 rpm higher than the premium model if I remember correctly), and the 2005 M5 weights significantly less than the 2008 model (in GT5, at least).

I can expect that from the S2000 because the premium one is the one that HONDA RUINED!!!

You may also be observing changes due to environmental conservation regulations, be it emissions changes, fuel economy changes.and ride balance issues.

The reason the Standard BMW M5 is faster is because it is 200 pounds lighter.

Also:

Because they're ports from GT4 and they're not as realistic as their premium counterparts.

The Standard is the one that is accurate in regards to weight. The Premium is not.

Plus what SHIRAKAWA said about the Mustang (and there are a few other problems with the Premium one which I don't think the Standard suffers from).

The No Stripe '05 is faster

Ahh yes I didn't realise about the BMW M5's extra weight sorry, still interesting though, especially how it's 4mph faster (All I did was change the oil on the 2005 version)
Yeah the 05 Mustang has 3hp more, but it's kind of interesting to see it's half a second quicker to 60? I think the 07 version is a european version?
Interesting to read that it's the same with other cars, I think it maybe a GT4 thing, but I can't say for sure.

i don't have the numbers

but could keep up in my '02 rs6 avant vs the '08 rs6 avant
