Nintendo's marketing idea of getting new gamers, specifically those that normally would have no interest, is working. Read to below to see how.

I went to visit my parents just the other day. Start talking a bit and then my step-mom asks me what I know about the Wii, and tells me how she thinks it looks fun. And since her vacation to some tropical island got canceled (health issues in the family), she wants to get one to be a gift to herself.

My step-mom is about 65 years old and has never once had an interest in video games.

So whose the oldest person you know that wants a Wii? I'm curious to see how this trend it working out...

Remembers me of old Garndma hardcore on youtube or how her nickname was :D

I brought my Wii to the family Thanksgiving get-together. It was a real hit, among both the young and old.

Same here Wolfe. My dads in early 60's and my mom is in her late 50's and all they could do is talk about bowling, they loved it, almost to the point of obsessions.

They're trying to make it up for Christmas, you can bet the Wii is calling them back.

I played Tennis, Bowling, and Boxing with my dad about a few weeks ago, and he absolutely loved it. I'm definitely not surprised that older folks are loving it.

That said, I'm not entirely sure that the said age group will be flocking to Best Buy to buy a Wii. I just can't see it happening.

Well, my step mom is figuring out how to get one despite being slightly hard to get a hold of. She doesn't want to wait in a line, but she wants it... so I may be sent on a mission sometime over break for one. Though I dunno where I am gonna find it... and by it, I mean the time. Not the Wii...

One of my suitemates said that his parents want a Wii so that they can do the bowling game.

Got a Wii for Xmas? This is what you're in for after Gran's had lunch and a few sherries

Think all those headlines about the Wii Remote's wrist straps are going to go away? No chance. If anything they'll be back with a vengeance after Christmas Day once all the kids who managed to get a Wii for Xmas have fired up their consoles in front of the family. Forget Bond...

Not. Long. Now. Only a few more days before parents who have never played games before, OAPs who still don't know what they are, and you kid sister who doesn't recognise the fact that things do break get hold of Nintendo Wii.

There's going to be carnage up and down the country this Christmas as those non-gamers' Nintendo wants to bring into the field get a hold of the Wii Remote and start swinging for England.

That is CVG's take on this, but I still think the Wii is just a fad and will not do the full active thing like real excises or Eye Toy. But if I wanted a Wii still, I would just get it for when the family is all together for events.

And then the Wii would go back on the storage shelves for another couple of months, however if Nintendo can tempt me with some better less child like games, then they may give me a reason to buy a Wii.

Dad and a friend had a boxing match with the Wii for a while a few weeks back, and it is very good exercise. Call him unfit, but he was properly worn out afterwards, along with his friend. Sure, it might not match jogging for half an hour every morning, but it is great for people who are less fit than many active people. Even I was starting to get worn out after a while...

Plus, I personally thing it's just as good as eye toy - maybe even better. It's a very precise machine, where the Eye Toy was a little unresponsive right into the corners of the screen (and yes, we set it up properly).

however if Nintendo can tempt me with some better less child like games, then they may give me a reason to buy a Wii.
How are the games childish?

Not counting my grandma, who's 60-something and as big a gamer as I am, My 43-year-old Dad looks forward to playing WiiSports with me. 👍

Umm, Zelda, Metroid, Red Steel (though its not that great) are just few less child like games. The last two Metroids have been brilliant games, and rather dark in both art and nature at many points. This comment about Nintendo just making childish games bugs me more than anything else I ever hear about gaming.

The GCN might have been a bit childish, but the games were brillent. Zelda - Windwaker was an awesome game to play through. Same with the Metroids. And then Super Smash Brothers Melee is still a regular when I get together with my friends, and we are all 20 something.

My dad is all excited about the Wii. He really wants to take me on at Madden. That is a task I think I will easily win considering he has a bad rotator cuff.

But when I was over there the day after Christmas and he found out my wife wasn't able to get me one yet he was almost angry. He was really looking forward to trying it out. I promised him once I get it I will bring it over one weekend so I can beat him at everything. :sly:

My 76 year old Grandpa loves Wii Golf. Hes gonna go out and buy a Wii just for the Golf on Wii-Sports
Get him Tiger Woods in March as a surprise. If it transfers over as well as Madden does it will be an awesome game on the Wii.
