What happened to AMC?

At one point, my mother and two of my uncles had the exact same car--Olds Cutlass Cieras. They didn't totally suck. I'm sure they were nice when they were new, but not when they were 12+ years old.

AMC is still good, but AMCs in good condition are pricey. i saw a good condition 82 concord wagon for sale for 2800$, thats a little out of my first car price range. cutlass cieras are ok, but FWD, cutlass supremes/salons (like the one shown) are RWD.
