Hey. I'm using a standard paddle but can't get close to the top times. Is it impossible without a steering wheel?
I've been around the track hundreds of times but I'm still 4 seconds from the top of the leaderboard. Am I just rubbish or do I need better set up?

The top times are being set by aliens. Some of the best sim-racing drivers in the world. You might get a bit closer with more work but it doesn't mean you're rubbish.

It's not impossible with a pad. People have qualified for the World Finals using a pad, but you really need to be an alien.

I'm 5 seconds off, and that's where I expected to be. 5 seconds off from an Olympic record will do me. I'd be further away from Usain Bolt...

Hey thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think I'm useless how do they get such good times?? My best is 1:58.945 what's yours?

I haven't set a time yet. I may or may not in the coming days. Like I said in another thread, I'm not real big on time trial competitions. It's also not one of my better tracks, let alone combos. When I popped in earlier this past week to quickly to set a lap and realized how strict they were going to be with track limits invalidating lap times, I decided to work on the upcoming FIA races instead.

Fair enough. I just think it's amazing that you could actually win an Olympic medal but I think it's impossible to break into the top 100 let alone the top 16. I loaded the top time ghost & he disappeared after the 2nd corner. There's no tuning allowed so I just can't comprehend how they're so quick

Do you have much experience in Sport Mode? The Olympic Time Trial is new and brings a new level of prestige with it, and as such the very best in the game are try harding at it (which sounds derogatory but I don't mean it in that way at all).

The alien drivers are setting phenomenally fast lap times, so if you are new to the game or don't have much experience racing online then you need to set realistic expectations. I was hoping to finish in the top 500, something which I'm close to achieving but may just miss out on.

I have some fast drivers on my friends list, and none of them have broken into the 55's. It's looking like something like a 55.2 is needed to actually qualify as an EMEA driver.

You can watch the top replays to see what they're doing, but actually replicating it is easier said than done as you already know!

Thanks for your reply. I'm not a novice but I'm not pro either. I don't race online so I'm unknown in the race world but I play often and set times in the time trials. This is the first time I've really taken it seriously as there's such a great prize available but after completing hundreds of laps, I just thought I maybe need to invest in a decent wheel to even have a chance of getting a serious contender.

There's not much evidence to support that wheels are faster than a pad over a single lap. They do help with consistency and managing tyre wear, and they're certainly more fun (in my opinion).

There are people who will vigorously argue the opposite of course!
