For the past 4 years, Citroen have been the dominant force in Germany. Bugalski winning in 2001, and Loeb winning in 2003, 03 and 04.
Thought the 2001 round wasnt an official Germany rally, 2002 was the Rallies official debut in the WRC.
It is the first tarmac event for 6 months after the car breaking gravel events of argentina and the sweeping forest roads of Finland. People describe it as 3 rallies in 3 days, Leg 1 runs through the twist vineyard roads, fast straights and tight turns make the handbrake a vital accessory, Leg 2 runs on the rough tanks tracks of Baumholder military ranges and then the final Leg runs on dead smooth and fast bitumen coated roads making for a very difficult rally as the drivers have got to adjust from leg to leg.
Some driver changes for the rally, Stephane Sarrazin replaces Chris Atkinson in the Subaru and Alex Bengue is in for Janni Passonen at Skoda.
Chris Atkinson will run in a 3rd Impreza but Sarrazin is Subarus 2nd elected points scorer with Solberg. Former Mitubishi driver Daniel Sola is running in a Focus and a small suprise is that Mikko Hirvonen does not have a driver seat at the rally.
Sebastien Loeb will be the faviroute to win after his hat trick of wins in the past rallies of germany, the Citroen is running well this year and despite him not getting the record of 7 rallly wins in a row he can still carry on winning.
Solbergs memories of his nasty accident in 2004 will be haunting him down the stages but he too will be in the running.
Gronholm claimed he would make it past the first turn this year but has played down his chances of winning in the 307 and Toni Gardemeister will be looking for his maiden rally win in the Focus.
Loeb however will be confident with his record here and anyone else winning the rally is unlikely.
