One birthday thread

The birthday threads are positively useless and clutter up the Rumble Strip. 99% of them only have impersonal "Cheers mate " as posts. If banning right-aligned and centered signatures was to simplify and clean up the look of GTP, I'm sure restricting birthdays to one thread would do miles more. Or have some sort of official GTP happy birthday PM, on behalf of everyone, so we don't have to skim through the multitudes of these threads every day.

Suggestions? Or am I just being scroogey.

Is it really that hard to move your mouse wheel down a few more clicks when browsing the Rumble Strip? You = scroogey.

I'm sure this has come up before anyway.

I can understand where you're coming from, but it'd be a pain to navigate. And no fun at all.

Or perhaps a small sub-forum for only birthday threads? That way they'll still be there, just not in our way.

I myself have addressed this "issue" to the Admins, but I got a negative response because they'd like members to get their own birthday threads as "small gifts" and thus feel a little bit more special on their day. Not a bad reason I must admit.

Yes, subforum is a good idea. I understand the little special feeling when someone makes a thread for you, but damn, there's so many of these things!

I kinda like it the way it is, personally. It's also nice to have a birthday thread dedicated to you. My two cents. ;)

An entire subforum to contain the birthday threads would be like using a grenade to bring down an anthill.

A single thread to contain birthdays would be a complete mess as well. Say member #1 has a birthday, and member #2 has his birthday on the same day (or the next day). Messages from people towards both specific members would get mixed up and make the thread confusing, plus it doesn't make you feel special when your friend makes you a thread wishing you a "happy birthday".

What else could we do? Nothing else, really. I say just suck it up.

Or permaban Serge D.

Yeah. I like it the way it is as well. I'm sure people will be much more likely to see it in the rumble strip (because I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't check the B-day sections). That would make more responses and make people feel better?

Yeah, but what would you be mixing up? Generic compliments?

Bah humbug, everyone's got a good point though.

I probably wouldn't. Not in a bad way, I just think a subforum would cheapen the intentions of whoever is wishing you your birthday.

What's the verb for wishing someone a happy birthday? Happy Birthdaying them?
