Just had an idea this morning- searched through the forums and nothing, so here we go!

How would this work you could ask?

It could be very simple, but very effective also. The car that is up for auction, is a car that an online user has created, tested, raced with, etc. It could show the mileage, win percentage, with a history of accidents also. The seller would of course set the price on it.

Then it would be up for grabs at a location in the game. The seller could set a time limit in the game, and if no more than 1 person puts a bid on it before the time limit ends, then that person automatically gets it.

It could be as simple as a list and a visual demonstration, or very complex, showing all of the tuning upgrades, accidents, etc.

Perhaps they could give the option to take a test drive in it with a course of the drivers choice. And if they like it, they could set a price on it.

Any suggestions on this subject is more than welcomed.

magburner already made a thread on this, feel free to merge these 2 threads together sir- https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=117253&highlight=gt5+unique+cars

This would be a delight. I think if i recall correctly, Kaz in a 2008 interview stated it was very possible to do such a thing but from the sound of his response it wasn't something he was considering.

A sort of GT ebay might work if the cars on offer were tuned, restored or invested in by the previous owner to get some of that investment back and offer the new buyer the chance to buy a bargain ( not having to invest fully in tuning parts, restoration, etc. ).
If it were just standard cars you could also buy in GT mode yourself it wouldn't make much sense unless we get the same used car cycle like GT4 whereby some cars only appeared only on a certain day, making it easier for some to purchase those cars perhaps for a premium without having to wait.

Been playing forza have we?

This is exactly what I want. In forza you can't test cars/tunings, you're forced to buy them.

No, i have never played Forza, if it is implemented there and works i could see something similar appear in GT5.

There's a hell of a lot Polyphony could learn from Forza.

Could be, as mentioned above i wouldn't know, although their livery editor and some other features seem nice.
There's also a hell of a lot they seem to have learned from PD, i would certainly give it a go if it was multi-platform, but i only own a PS3. ;)

The main thing I want GT5 to steal from Forza is how in Forza you can tune the car during your test runs freely during the run itself by pausing the game and changing the settings from the menu, picking up where you left off after you unpause, using the game's advanced telemetry suite to get actual tangible data about how the car is behaving. I honestly have no idea how I set up the suspension in a car without being able to see how the tires are making contact with the road (using temperature readings from 3 zones on each tire), how the car's weight moves around through corners, to what degree the springs are being compressed and how the dampers are regulating compression and rebound.

PD can start with something smaller, similar to selling your cars in GT4, but this time you are putting the price and passing it to another player. It may show only basic stuff. If it works well the next GT could have something more elaborated like auctions and more info.

I was going to say that I do not see myself using the feature but as I think about it now I believe it is a nice idea.

Forza is an unbelievable GT clone (I own both, FM and GT)... I wonder how FM fanboys can start such fights and can say that FM is better than GT? same tracks, same cars, same cameras, same events... nearly everything is the same like GT...

But they improved FM very good, there are a lot of things wich we need in GT...

And also FM needs more details like GT...

This is an awesome idea. The thing is, I don't think all of the car's information should be visible to the buyers because if it was, nothing would prevent you from buying/tuning your own.

A perfect racing game for me would be one where Polyphony did the game's graphics and physics engine, modeled and simulated the cars and tracks, made sure everything was perfect and did the menu music while Turn 10 made it into a game, with their customization, tuning, accessibility and community-building incorporated into GT's "start with nothing, learn to drive, turn your crapbox into a monster and gradually get better and better cars" gameplay.

Hmm... auction house, store front, livery editor, having named setup saves (more than three).... I wouldn't say that's a hell of a lot.

But anyway, the auction idea mostly has merit if you can livery up your car. Otherwise, what it would be used for is selling cars for more than you can sell it to the game. For us it would offer many bargains. Obviously tuned cars would go for more.

I do want this idea in GT5. And to rip a concept from Forza, I like the idea of being able to sell just about anything. In F3's storefront, you can sell cars painted, modified or stock; individual liveries, tunes, even individual decals you created. You set a price, and if people like it, it sells. If people don't like the price, you can set it lower to attract buyers. You can even give things away for free. And to keep people from selling your hard work over, anything you buy can't be resold. It's a very elegant and popular system, and it really should be included in Gran Turismo. If not in 5, then at some point..

Don't forget Forza's tuning options, real-time telemetry data, and the community interactivity.

EDIT:
I don't know, the online auctions could go both ways - there's some obvious good in it, but I'm forever scarred by those ridiculous "Unicorn" vehicles that Forza has. For those of you who don't know - Unicorns are the vehicles you can only purchase from the Auction House, and up to millions of credits at that - for cars that aren't even worth 100,000cr. If GT does borrow the idea (or steal, depending on who you are) and an idea (even showing the slightest bit of similarity) like that is implemented, I'll avoid it like the plague.

Just as I avoid the Auction House now.

Double post.

Those are the big ones, along with how Forza's user-friendliness. Based on the games that have been released so far, playing a GT game for the first time isn't easy. There's a lot to get your head around, especially if you aren't all that familiar with racing technique, how the parts on a car work and the physics of racing. The license tests do a great job at teaching the techniques you'll need to know to succeed, but the way they're handled makes them seem like they're a series of tests you have to complete, and not driving lessons, so unless you approach them with the understanding that you need to pay attention to what you're doing in a way that you'll remember what you did to pass the test and will just do it naturally, without thinking, when you're actually racing. Just look at how often you'll people hear about how much they hate the license tests. I hated them, too, until I realized they were teaching, not testing, and then I loved them.

I just wanted to say that I had absolutely no idea this was in Forza. But that doesn't mean that if Turn 10 did it, PD shouldn't. It was just an idea that popped in my head after watching an episode of Top Gear on youtube.

It really doesn't. The sad thing is there's a lot of people here and elsewhere who, through fanboy idiocy, refuse to believe that the Forza series is anything other than a sub-par ripoff that does nothing well, let alone better than GT.

Forza and Gran Turismo are both great games that, while similar in general concept, offer radically different experiences. Neither is perfect, and both could benefit to learn from the other.

But nope, only one can be good, and the other totally sucks, because the idea of having not one but two great caRPGs to choose from is a horrible one.

Race car & road car auctions ( setup properly though ) and a car trade type magazine ( Autotrader, Top Marques, specialist mags etc ) is something that i think could be popular.Yeah choosing cars/drivers to compete against during single player/online races, is ok with me.

Mixing GT graphics, cars, tracks and forza's online features, customisation, online community would be the best of both worlds. 👍

As for the ''GT Ebay'' system, bring it on. That's would be an awesome feature to get more money when you're selling your cars.

We could have a PD style cash for clunkers! (But because PD are perfectionists, it would only last 2 weeks, then PD would go broke and be left with millions of pixelated clunkers)

EDIT: AKA a bunch of skylines.

I agree totally with you. That would be the best racing game ever.

We all share the same dream, now we must band together and do everything we can to end the console war. This is more than a dream, it's an idea for something so wonderful if it were to be created it would push the world forward into a new golden age.

I pondered much the same thing in a post last summer!

myself
I'm wondering how PD are going to implement the used car lot now that the GT5 will have online functionality. In the past you have been able to get any used car you want in game by carefully tracking the used cars that are available on certain days.

Is GT5 going to have an online used car lot that everyone can buy cars from, or even put up cars they no longer want for sale? If that is the case, some new and interesting possibilities may arise.

Firstly, Unique cars, there could be some cars that are classed as 'unique', ie, there will only ever be so many of them available ever. I know I would like the idea of having a car that few other people will own, what do you think?

Secondly, Some players could even setup a private dealership, where the buy, sell and trade cars to the highest bidder. Either for fun, or as a side poject to gain extra CR. Also, if it is possible to sell actual car parts, then the player could sell those too. You could see some players specilising in certain makes or models of cars, and selling them on to people that would be interested in purchasing them.

Lastly, If GT5 has comprehensive and detailed car setup features, you could also see players selling 'tuned' cars. Imagine buying a stock car, then adding custom parts to it, giving it a nice paint scheme, and then setting it up for races, drift competitions, or drag races etc.

A player could then sell that car for a given price, or auction it off to the highest bidder. There are all ready some very competent car tuners here at GTP, it wouldn't be much of a leap of the imagination to think that those tuners would progress on to selling actual tuned cars (if the option was available to them). In effect, the tuner would be creating a virtual 'tuning brand' like Mines, HKS or the like, and their cars and tuning skills could become known throughout GT5.

For all this to work, GT5 would have to have some form of in game economy, I don't know how easy or hard it would be to impliment, but it is not beyond the realms of imagination to do so, as many MMO's today either have actual economies, or thriving black markets. I like the idea of this, what do you think?
