OK, first off i'm no great racer like a fair few number of tagged and taggless and recently dropped tag racers out there, but, after this last update things have kinda dived to all new lows.

I race std class mostly as there is so little choice this last update, if you let me loose on a tuned car i'll mess its settings up royaly so really cant compete in 3 of those events, TT well lets face it, may aswell play offline. Expert? well from my recent experience it's just like std only penalties are harsher and if you're stuffed at the back your unlikely to make it through with peeps ramming punting etc....some off which are peeps who are good racers, you can tell by their entries to corners etc.....they are probably detagged racers who are as bored with demolition derby as much as I am becoming.

So that really only leaves the 3 ovals, std suzuka (cut grass ftw, aka oval), daytona (tri oval but wall makes it a dragstrip) and HSR, another dragstrip with punt and catchup opportunities.

I try hard to race fair, there are peeps on my list that are also fair drivers but recently its just so chaotic I have to admit i'm being dragged down to the lvl of demolition derby, grass cutter etc etc. My biggest concern is the very new who buy the game first off (such as a mate of mine) just see this chaos on entry level online and think WOW this is silly and go back to whatever they were doing before....not everyone is world class from the get go and they certainly wont be able to learn to be with GT5P.

I'm not saying it was great before the update but at least you were kept reasonably honest with cutting penalties, as stated above suzuka is just a glorified oval now in std mode.

So, what say you lot? am I in a minority or am I right in thinking it's just turned into a new version of demolition derby?

Personally, online is currently only as bad as the people in the race, if you get with good clean drivers its no problem and is often the best experience you can get with a game. Similarly if you get bad drivers (i say bad as in dirty not neccessarily slow) you're not in for a good one. These bad drivers will always find ways to exploit the game, no update or whatever will ever truly end the problem.

For instance there's cuts on every track or ways to use walls to gear round faster, so some people will use them to their advantage where possible.

It's really annoying.. Just got my G25 .. And at some particular race I had to start in first position.. they just kept on ramming me in the first corner..

Brake early, drop a gear as you get hit and expect your line to be through the run-off area on the outside of the corner. You won't always end up there but if you're prepared it makes it much less traumatic.

I'll give that a try tonight:)

A few days ago i dont race on fuji because , this circuit you can go out of the track and dont lose time.I think this is the problem on fuji 750 pp.And I saw people using the exteriors of the tracks like a normal line.

yea the GTLMSQUAD guys do that on the last turn before the straight. I was in p3 behind 2 of them and all 3 laps they come out of the last turn way too hot, and drive straight through that run off section with no penalty.

The thing about using the runoffs is it isn't actually any faster and when I pass them on the exit, with a nice tight apex line, it's gotta be rubbing their noses in it :D

I appreciate pro racers aren't too bothered by this as their skills compensate.

This is really aimed towards newer players, more casual players that struggle to keep up after a punt or someone cuts the grass to take their place....not to say you shouldn't express your opinions tho.

I suggest that you practice offline more to know the ins and outs of your particular vehicle and course. With that knowledge you can really make a difference when you are attacked by moron racers.

I'd personally advise mixing it with the punters as much as you can. Call it the school of hard knocks. My car control has come on leaps and bounds since I've been racing online, due to constantly having to correct. I'm sure it's improved my offline skills too. Of course I'm still pathetically slow but at least I don't spin off as often now :)

I agree with both practice offline and with them online, drifting can help to so when you do get knocked sideways you can nail down a slide without losing much time, that is, just sliding your chosen car on your race tyres and set up just in offline races to learn to control it as different tyres make a big difference.

I'm 100% sure the penalties are less strict. Places where you would have gotten a penalty before the update, you can now cut the grass. It was better before the update, and I hope we don't have to wait for another update to fix it.

I wonder if the guys at PD actually play this game online. Seriously if they put up a video on GT-TV of Kazunori Yamauchi playing a standard event at Suzuka I would buy it, just to see the look on his face. They need to get their priorities straight. It's a racing game, not a video rental service. My advice to PD: leave the collsion penalties as they are now, until you find a proper way to solve it. But please don't let them cut the chicanes and grass, wtf you had it right and then you made it worse?

I wish someone would tattoo this on Kazunori's forehead. For a dev company who's slippage seems to be among the worlds worst to throw so much resource into setting up a teevee production company of all things, it's gotta be a kick in the teeth to fans of the series. I just hope it bombs and they can concentrate on developing video games for a change.

Thanks for the feedback peoples, keep it coming if you have anything that will help the newer and casual to compete. Went on again tonight and its bad but using a bit of defensive driving as suggested helped me out a bit, still ate sand and watched the competition treat suzuka like an oval but it was a little easier to swallow.

It was also nice to see one or 2 racers sticking as much as they could to the circuit and we had some nice close racing but you still are forced into cutting the last chicane unless you want to a) come last b) eat barrier as 10+ others barrel into you slowing right down whereas they do not....really spoils the track as that chicane was a real test of skill and mental resolve before the update, if you were in the lead your mind would be on that chicane nearly the whole way round.

Thanks.

P.S. As for the points about the TV stuff, agreed, this is a game where you take part not watch...still there is obviously some sort of market out there or they would not bother....lets hope they have a dedicated team and dont steal game making resource to do it.
