Online connection problem - please help

I've done a search, but can't find this subject covered before.
I have been unable to connect online for the last 24 hours or so.
After clicking the online icon on the home screen, there is a lengthy delay. After approx 30 secs, I get the error message "Failed to get online event data".
The wording may be slightly different, but that's the gist.
I use a wired connection (ethernet) to my router. I've checked the connection and I have download/upload speeds similar or better than previously. Latency is 126ms.
Everything else I can do OK, e.g. update time trial rankings, download video etc.

BT home hub.
Download speed approx 530 kilobits/sec
Upload speed approx 350 kilobits/sec
Latency 126 millisec

Any suggestions please?
 
Have you checked your PS3 settings? There might be something out of wack there.💡
 
I checked all the network settings - nothing's changed. I'm signing on OK to PSN. I have more than one PSN account; same error on each.
I'm stumped at the moment guys.

edit; I even loaded up Motorstorm - online and racing with no problems, which would suggest that it's a GT5P-specific problem.
 
I guess that you might have to go to the GT5 home site and check with them.:ouch:
 
Have you tried to delete the cache data for GT5p already?
Might help, dunno i read something about it? :)
 
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try those things, but trobleshooting on hold for today. SWMBO's standing behind me, arms folded, tapping her foot, ready to go out.
MMMMMMMMM - Maybe it's a voltage drop due to her hairdryer???

Unfortunately I'm a network ignoramus, so I wouldn't be of much help to you Desmo. Haven't seen you online for a while, hope you're still kickin' A's in the Audi?
 
try resetting the router that helped me when i was having a similar problem.
 
If you can sign in, your network is fine, you can stop looking there.
I think the cache proposal has a good ring to it, i would leave your networksettings like they are, network is network, your problem is something else.

Anyway - thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll try clearing the cache; I'll report back tomorrow.

Clearing the cache did the trick.
