So who would like to have online driver changes?

It goes like this: Once you come to a stop in the pits you have the option to turn the car over to another online driver. Because this makes extremely long races possible, we will need the option to set race distances by time instead of laps.

Earth, please don't take offense but I think that you should put a more detailed explanation of what you mean. I think that this idea right here would make GT the most innovative racing title. Period.

I can just imagine doing a two hour stint at LeMans, pulling in to the pits and turning over control to my teammate (who has signed on a few moments before and waiting to do the swap), exchanging some info about course conditions/car performance over voice chat and then sending him back out on track. It would be a awesome step towards simulating race conditions.

Is this what you were talking about?

When I first read this, I was thinking that the relief driver would be using the same PS3 system.

Then I realized that what @Earth was talking about was the ability to hand the car over to another driver who is most probably physically in a remote location from the current driver.

I really like this concept of implementing endurance racing. Especially if the team of drivers for a car were to be resident in a convenient range of time zones to allow all of them to drive at a civilized time of their day.

Of course, the game time-of-day could be anything, and the clock speed could be accelerated such that in a real 24 hour period, there could be several virtual day cycles.

There may be technical issues to be solved, but unless and until they prove to be show-stoppers, that should not prevent us from voting for this function if we want it.

Sure, with such a geographically dispersed team of players, there may be lag issues to deal with. Maybe the actual drivers will need to limit their timezone dispersion.

And there may be server connection reliability issues to be overcome.

Who knows. I just think this is a wonderful idea and it's worth attempting to solve any technical challenges. Let's not assume it's impossible.
